Today we’d like to introduce you to Teneia Gravitt.
Hi Teneia , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been doing Hair far as 11 yrs old my mother was a cosmetologist as well I have been licensed cosmetologist sense 2010. Went to school at creative Hair school. I got my license and was able to start working at my cousins salon Hair Emmanuel. My mother also taught her how to do hair as well. After so long I came upon a salon for lease and we jumped on it. My daughter and I opened T Lamaz Hair & Beauty Studio in 2022. I do the hair she sold her makeup products like lip gloss and lashes that came from her own business years ago called Lamazing gloss. It was a collaboration!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was not a smooth ride for my daughter and I. We opened up and purchased everything out of our own pockets. The ins and outs of owning the business has been a challenge. Plus my daughter left the business a year ago so now I run the business as a sole proprietor.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in the care of your hair. I qualify myself as a natural hairstylist first. I also specialize in silk press. But I am blessed in all aspects. I do everything including lashes, brows, cut,coloring,weaves,styling,braids,locs, and so much more. I am also versatile I have worked at salons like smart styles so I cut and style men’s hair as well. I can also cut or style all nationalities. I am most proud of my professionalism that I acquired over the years. Also I am not only a salon owner but I am always a student. Learning new things and ways to do them excites me and keeps my motivation in the hair industry. I belive that is what sets me apart.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is family. It’s important to me that my daughter and son see me as not just there mom but a go getter a home owner and business owner. A woman that is strong works on being a better person and mom daily. Why so if they see better they will do better.
