Check Out Stephanie Hunter’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Hunter

Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was little I have always had a love for music. It wasn’t until late 2022 that I bought my first ever guitar, a strat style Washburn. I remember listening to Cliffs of Dover in the car on the way to work one day and thinking, “I should buy a guitar today”. That same month, I joined my first band (an all girls cover band “Hot M.E.S.S.”.) and immediately started playing gigs. Needless to say, my learning style was “trial by fire”. Since then I have been in a couple cover bands; I played Keyboard in a classic rock band “Dogfish” and lead guitar in a multi-genre band “BlueSkye”.

In mid 2023, I bought and started learning to play my first acoustic. For a while, I really struggled. It was a tough learning curve for me to transition to acoustic. But in time, it slowly became my preferred instrument. Mid to late 2024 I booked my first acoustic solo show as one of my current projects, “Stephanie Hunter Music”. Since then, I have played weekly shows and released my single “Lost With You” featuring Wyatt Smith. Most recently, Wyatt and I have started up a grunge/alt rock band for our original music called “Other Entity”.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think anything is ever a perfectly smooth road, which is what makes it a much more meaningful ride. Some of the biggest struggles I’ve faced with my path in music have been stability related. Balancing day-to-day life with music can be tricky. Managing finances, work and band schedules, emotions, big life changes, ect. That being said, I have written some of my favorite and most dynamic songs during intense times and I think that’s a beautiful thing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My current projects include Stephanie Hunter Music and Other Entity. Stephanie Hunter Music is an entertainment business providing acoustic originals, covers, and crowd requests at a multitude of venues. Other Entity is an alternative rock/grunge band fronted by myself and Wyatt Smith.

What sets Stephanie Hunter Music apart from other acoustic entertainment businesses is the variety of genre and sound. I have a wide setlist ranging from country to nu metal and an ability to adjust my set for the venues crowd.

Other Entity has some really interesting dynamics that I’m always super excited to talk about. We are a 3 piece band fronted by no one in particular. Wyatt Smith (bass and vocals) and I (guitar and vocals) both contribute to the writing process and share “the spotlight”. We are most known for our constant and intriguing male and female vocal harmonies throughout our songs as well as an eerie tone, often referred to by new listeners as “haunting”.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next few year I see myself really growing both of my current projects. I am extremely passionate about what I’m currently doing and I want nothing more than to invest in that. My goal is to learn more and more about the industry as a whole and do better each year.
