Today we’d like to introduce you to Sinclair Slazinski.
Sinclair, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Over quarantine is when I started to really get interested in Fashion. Something a lot of people in the industry don’t know is a modeling career starts with only three steps. Taking pictures to submit, actually submitting them, and signing a contract. as you can assume. Those three steps only took me about a week. A few months after signing my first contract and only working in America, I got a call from my agent that the leading high fashion agency in Europe wanted to sign me. MGM, which is based in Germany.
Since then, I’ve been to 11 different countries and worked for brands like Van Cleef & Arpels, Akira, Charlotte Tilbury, Stradivarius, and seen in magazines like Glamour & Ocean drive.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The industry is changing, almost anybody can model now. I would say almost every “kind” of modeling besides high fashion still has restrictions- and even then, sometimes not. It just takes consistency. You’re bound to get rejected, sometimes, they just want a redhead or someone that’s a size 0. Of course, it’s sad, no one wants to get rejected, but it’s just part of the job. Just like acting or being a chef. Consistency is key.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I model full-time at 18. I’m from Rochester hills Michigan and live in Europe full-time for work. I’m most proud of changing the perspective of people in my life about the modeling industry. Sometimes being a model can be hard but it’s not like what it used to be. Since cancel culture started happening a lot of agencies, excuse my language- got their sh*t together. Let’s be real, if you weren’t born a double zero, it’s just not realistic to be on a healthy diet while achieving the standards, they had back in the ’90s for supermodels.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like least is the lack of knowledge the rest of the country has about the creatives in Detroit. There’s so many small rappers and artists go unknown – small business or creative coffee stops that no one knows about. It’s a reoccurring theme that things have changed since the ’90s. Detroit is different, and there’s so much to love. which brings me to what I love most … the creatives here. we really don’t get enough credit for all the talent that comes out of the D.
