Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaunita Griggs.
Shaunita, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Body Language Collection started off as just a hobby/lifestyle. I’ve always been obsessed with mixing and pairing scents. I’ve dealt with eczema and dry skin so making creations with oils and creams is something that I naturally fell into. A few years back I began a journey of making my own skin products. For my 30th birthday, I gifted my travel friends with some of my creations. From then on, I have always been asked to make things for friends and family. The response was amazing when they would sample my personal items. This sparked an idea to see how making products for others would turn out. An opportunity for a pop-up vendor shop at my friend’s boutique came around. My friend encouraged me to bring my products and give it a shot. I took a chance and haven’t looked back. That day I knew that this is something that I wanted to do not only for myself but others. Online sales has picked up with repeat customers, but I still love doing vendor events. I look forward to expanding and getting products into local retailers.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been smooth road at all. I started my online business only a short time before Covid hit, getting supplies and inventory was challenging. It was very challenging when products were consistently being back ordered with dates constantly being pushed back or just items out of stock and hard to find. Trying alternatives was hit or miss. That caused my products to be unavailable for my customers. Having a business that was fresh and in the beginning stages of developing, maintaining prospects and customers, I was faced with the obstacle of being able to get my product out there. I was able to connect with people in person but that came to a halt because of safety regulations that were enforced during the peak of Covid. I wasn’t able to get out to sell and promote in person like normal. This is how I gained majority of my sales initially. I discovered that a lot of people wanted to engage with me, they also wanted to get a feel of my products and smell and try out scents personally. Although I have social media and a message system in place, connection was a strain for business. Online sales were very slow, almost non existent for months.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
