Check Out Scott Murphy’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Murphy

Hi Scott, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started working as a mechanic/ fabricator building prototype and show vehicles around 2000. I began building military vehicles which lead me into becoming a Process Engineer around 2007. In 2016 I found out I needed a liver and kidney transplant. I was lucky enough to have the transplants in October that year. I had complications from the medications after the transplants which left me disabled from working a regular job again. I decided to start a YouTube channel in 2022 and it has given me the opportunity to build projects at the pace my body can handle and to have new adventures and experiences with the gift of a 2nd life I’ve been given. I made the choice to enjoy everyday as it’s a gift I’ve been given by someone I can never repay.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My body had a sever reaction to the steroids they use to control rejection after the organ transplants. This caused many different medical issues, including the spontaneous fractures of 7 of my vertebrae. This has left me in constant pain. I follow a Physical Therapy plan daily, which has allowed me to be as active as possible given my limitations. It took almost 5 years after the transplants for my organs to be medically stable. The last 3 years I’ve been able to focus on physical issues, which has been wonderful.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I started my YouTube channel in 2022 to allow me to build cars and show the many wonderful companies that manufacture here in our state. I use the platform to show people how to craft custom cars within a limited budget. It has been a struggle at times, but as the channel has grown, I’ve been able to have experiences and meet people I never would have without it. Through YouTube I’ve met some great friends all over the country and world. We are lucky to live in a state where manufacturing is still alive and well. Through my series Michigan Makes, I’ve gotten the chance to travel much of state while showing that our country still builds things here.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Social media is constantly growing and changing. You have to have a presence on multiple platforms to grow a brand. I see that continuing and spreading further as the current large platforms slow and new ones take there place.
