Today we’d like to introduce you to Samia Savonne.
Hi Samia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Absolutely. I’ve been singing since I was 3 years old, and my first performance was actually on TV at that age. Performing has always been a part of my life. I did big shows even as a kid, and over time that love for music blossomed into something deeper. I sing, write songs, play the piano, and dance. Music is how I process life.
Beyond music, I’ve also built a career in acting. I star in the upcoming film Hold It Now! and play Sasha in the upcoming TV series Vindicated VCU: Detroit. I’ve produced two films so far, and both feature original songs I wrote for the soundtracks. I’m currently pursuing my music degree at the University of Michigan, and I’ve had the chance to perform at venues like the Fox Theater and Little Caesars Arena, as well as learn from icons like Samara Joy in a masterclass at which I was chosen to perform.
My journey led me to launch Jam Session, a collaborative group that helps young creatives grow together, learn the business, and build real opportunities. I’ve worked with Grammy-level talent like IV Duncan and Valdez Brantley, and now I’m preparing to release my first single. Every step of the way, I’ve just tried to stay grounded in purpose, faith, and excellence.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not smooth, but every part of the journey has shaped me. I was bullied a lot growing up, especially through elementary and middle school. I always had a strong sense of self, and I carried myself with confidence and focus, even as a little girl. But instead of being embraced, that often made me a target.
People mistook my confidence for arrogance, and once I started singing at school, that became something else they picked on me for. Granted, I wasn’t as polished then as I am now, but it didn’t justify the way they treated me. It left me with a lot of anxiety I still work through today, especially around fully showing up as myself. But in a way, that experience deepened my voice, not just musically, but in terms of knowing who I am and what I stand for. It gave me something real to sing about.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a singer-songwriter, actress, producer, and creative visionary. I specialize in R&B music that’s emotionally honest, soulful, and rooted in storytelling. I write my own songs, produce for film, and I’m deeply involved in every part of the creative process, from writing to visual direction.
I’m also proud to say I’ve made an impact both on stage and behind the scenes. Performing at major venues and starring in upcoming projects is exciting, but what I’m most proud of is how I’ve kept going, even when it was hard, and how I’ve used my journey to help create space for others through Jam Session.
What sets me apart is my multidimensional approach. I’m not just in one lane, I sing, act, write, produce, and build community. And I’m doing it all while staying grounded in my values, my faith, and my purpose.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
People know me mostly for my music and acting, but if it’s not obvious already, I absolutely love dance, makeup, and beauty. I’ve always loved expressing myself visually through fashion, hair, makeup, movement, all of it. Beauty is another form of art for me. It helps me feel powerful, feminine, and present. Whether I’m on stage or off, those elements are part of how I tell my story and embody who I am.
