Today we’d like to introduce you to Roland Mizell.
Roland, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I love this question. When I was a kid, I loved music, I would sing every song on the radio. And after seeing Lee Greenwood in concert and the way the crowd sang the songs, and the energy of it all, I knew I wanted to play music!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been smooth. Most of the struggles have been getting anyone to believe in me! I started playing hard rock in bands, and those bands always imploded before the first release. So, I went solo. I was told I didn’t have what it took and would never amount to anything! I’m on tour now and finding some support, and that makes it all worth it!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
As a musician, it can be tough to set yourself apart from the crowd, and that has its own issues. I create music that I enjoy and bring as many influences to that music as I can, and when I mixed rap with the acoustic guitar, it seemed to catch to ear of a morning radio host in Tampa Fl, and they talked about me some, and I performed a song live in studio. I then shot a music video in the city. I feel my unique style is what sets me apart!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
If I had any advice, it would be follow your passion and believe in yourself, and don’t wait; start right now!
