Today we’d like to introduce you to Riley Meier
Hi Riley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a kid, I always wanted to be behind a camera. Whether it was taking wildlife photos or filming my friends fall trying a skate trick. From there I just never stopped, from filming surf videos, product pictures for corporate clients, to even taking senior pictures for grads in my hometown. I’ve always felt that being a jack of all trades has fit my style much more than focusing on one specific discipline. The openness to try and figure out how to do an assignment has taught me much more than staying in one lane
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A creative career, like life, is a lot of ups and downs. I’ve had some mental health struggles that ended up in me dropping out of college. Not getting a degree felt like giving up in some ways, but now feels like a blessing in disguise as it has let me branch out from a more traditional career path
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My biggest strength, and what I think I am best at is portrait photography. I spent many years honing that specifically. However, I’m most proud of the surf and travel videos I create for Youtube. These let me show my ability, personality, and style most. I think the diversity of content I produce sets me most apart from my peers. I make watersport content, gaming videos, portrait photographs, and graphic designs for business clients
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is really whatever it means to the individual. I think if you’re happy with what you are doing you’re successful. Using something like acclaim or monetary reward as a benchmark for success is going to keep lots of creative and talented people from continuing to pursue their dream
