Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricardo Morgan.
Hi Ricardo, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My music journey started when my father was stationed in Aberdeen Maryland, not too far from Baltimore. I started producing at the age of 13 when my best friend Jared Paschall (JP) introduced me to Fruity Loops, now known as FL Studio.
From there, I would make beats everyday and in high school, I started producing for local rapper named Poetik Genius. My production was featured on a few of his projects.
In 2009, my father retired from the Army and my family moved to Metro Detroit. I experimented with being an artist from about 2011-2015. I opened for artists such as Waka Flocka Flame, Juicy J, Chevy Woods, and performed at several venues across Detroit.
Eventually, I decided to go back to producing because being a full on artist was too time consuming for me and felt like a chore to write music.
I went on to sell beats for local artists here and there and in 2018, I started producing beats for Hot 107.5’s Friday night cypher, a radio segment hosted by DJBJ. I did that for about a year before the segment came to a close.
In 2021, I collaborated with singer Jonah, Mic Phelps and Sino and released a record title Wins & a Losses. It received minimal spins in a mix show on 107.5
In 2023, I released a record with R&B singer Haile’ titled Can We Fall In Love. It was a Baltimore Club inspired record that received a ton of mix show spins at Hot 107.5.
Shortly after, I released a record with R&B singer/songwriter Niko Noir and Haile titled Love me better. This song sparked a new journey for me as I began providing management, PR and promo services for Niko Noir. I’ve since assisted Niko with several local news interviews and performances, radio interviews, radio mix show spins, and performance gigs. Most notably, I booked her to open for El Debarge and Day 26.
In May of 2026, I began managing R&B singer Jazmine Young. She recently competed in local 4’s super singer contest as a finalist. My goals are to help Niko Noir and Jazmine Young build long lasting careers in music that they are able to profit from.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I was overlooked early on because I didn’t have a big name for myself. I had to overcome those barriers by creating my own lane and building my name up within the Detroit music scene. My work producing and helping manage Niko Noir’s career has helped build a reputation for me. I’ve done PR for other artists and businesses as well
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Over the last few years, it’s been hard telling people what my title is. I’ve dabbled in so many different roles from producer, manager, publicist, artist, songwriter etc. Right now, I’m more focused on managing artists, and providing PR services. My experience as an artist has helped me navigate these roles. I’ve literally seen every side of the music industry. I’m most proud of being solely independent and bringing my ideas and vision to life. Utilizing my own funds and resources to facilitate PR press runs and radio promo.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I would say educate yourself as much as you can on all things music business. Learn about publishing, royalties, contracts, and the functions of a record label. Understand the processes involving record promo, marketing and publicity. These things will help you navigate your career when releasing music.
