Check Out Raw Roots’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raw Roots.

Hi Raw, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Raw Roots is a music series created by Rose the Engineer, a Gold Certified Engineer known for his work with Baby Smoove. I’m Jace Preme, the Executive Producer, Editor, and Cameraman for the series. I also own Preme media, the production company behind the series. It’s filmed at Tone Garden Studios, which Rose owns, and Preme Media handles the production—shooting, editing, lighting, and everything behind the scenes.

The first season was inspired by the raw, unfiltered feel of early 2000s music videos—those close-up, no-mic performances that captured an artist’s energy without distractions. Each season, we switch up the background, but the goal stays the same: keeping the focus on the music. We avoid extra people in the shot, minimizing anything that takes away from the performance.

The name Raw Roots ties back to Tone Garden but also reflects what we’re about—stripping music down to its core. We’ve already shot at least 20 videos in just a few months, and we’re just getting started. Moving forward, we’re expanding with artist interviews and giving artists a space to tell their stories.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
First, a little clarification — Raw Roots was created by Rose the Engineer (Alex Anderson), not by me. I serve as the Executive Producer, Editor, and Cameraman for the series, but the concept, original direction, and foundation of Raw Roots are 100% Rose’s vision. Rose is a Gold-Certified Engineer (Baby Smoove) and the owner of Tone Garden Studios, with over 10 years of experience working with over 1,000 artists across Detroit and beyond. He’s also the original founder of Bank Rose Productions.

We are deep business partners. I, Jace Preme, run parts of the operations for Tone Garden and also own Preme Media, the production company that produces Raw Roots alongside Rose. I also own a nonprofit record label that reinvests everything it earns back into its artists, and Rose is helping set up the frameworks for artist development on that side too.

We want to make sure readers understand that Season 0 — our first experimental season — was our way of figuring things out. It was filmed in black-and-white, with a raw, stripped-down aesthetic that captured the spirit of the series. It featured incredible Detroit artists like Detroit Diamond, Clooner, Big Jungle, and others who trusted us in our earliest phase.

The exciting news that we’d love for this article to announce is that Raw Roots has officially partnered with Yum Village in Detroit! Moving forward, starting with Season 1, we will be shooting our new episodes on location at Yum Village. We are finishing up the last 10 unreleased Season 0 videos now, and once those drop, we’ll be launching Season 1 at Yum Village, showcasing a fresh, vibrant new backdrop while staying true to our “raw, roots-focused” mission.

We’re also in talks to shoot future content with Division Detroit, and we are finalizing that partnership as we speak.

Season 2 will also feature a new creative shift where I, Jace Preme, will be much more involved in shaping the visual and creative direction of Raw Roots, building on the foundation Rose created.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a producer, videographer, photographer, social media manager, and entrepreneur specializing in content creation, branding, and storytelling across music, social media, and business.

I’m the Executive Producer, Editor, and Cameraman for Raw Roots, a music series filmed at Tone Garden Studios, showcasing artists in their rawest form. My company, Preme Media, handles production, from shooting to editing.

Beyond music, I manage social media pages, grow online communities, and help brands build their presence. I also host 3 podcasts, covering topics like sports, music, and personal growth. My photography work spans portraits, music, and creative direction, including collaborations with well-known artists.

What sets me apart? I do it all—from creating and marketing content to building platforms that amplify voices. My neurodivergence fuels my creativity, allowing me to hyperfocus, innovate, and connect deeply with audiences.

What’s next?
For the future, we’re planning to get really creative with Raw Roots. We want to bring in some heavy hitters from the music industry, elevate the production quality, and continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with the series.

We’re also planning to expand our artist interviews, giving creators a deeper platform to share their stories and connect with their audience on a personal level. Additionally, we’ll be exploring new collaborations and partnerships to keep evolving and bring fresh ideas to every season.
