Check Out Raiven McDaniel’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raiven McDaniel.

Hi Raiven, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m Raiven, a creative and entrepreneur from Detroit, Michigan. I’ve always been drawn to fashion, storytelling, and the art of creating things that make people feel something. Growing up in Detroit shaped a lot of how I see the world. It’s a city that’s vibrant, resilient, and comfortable carving out its own identity, and I think those qualities naturally influence the way I approach everything I create.

I studied journalism and film production at the University of Michigan, where I developed a real appreciation for storytelling and visual expression. When I started lust x lingeRai, I wanted to bring that perspective into fashion and create something that felt intimate, personal, and distinctly my own. Lingerie felt like the perfect medium because it isn’t just about what you wear — it can completely change how you carry yourself and how you see yourself.

What started as an idea for a lingerie brand has evolved into a platform for femininity, individuality, and feeling good in your own skin. I wanted lingeRai to offer pieces that allow women to explore different sides of themselves — whether that’s playful, sensual, romantic, bold, or simply comfortable. Our philosophy, “Unapologetically Sexy,” is really about encouraging women to define what self-love means to them.

Building a business has been a learning experience in every sense. I’ve had to navigate branding, marketing, e-commerce, content creation, and the realities of entrepreneurship while continuing to figure out what I want the brand to become. Social media has also given me an opportunity to tell the story behind lingeRai and connect with women beyond Detroit in a way that feels genuine.

I’m still growing and discovering new possibilities for the brand, which is part of what makes the journey so exciting. For me, lust x lingeRai is about more than intimate apparel. It’s about creating an experience around sensuality, confidence, and personal style — and reminding women that they get to decide how they want to feel, how they want to be seen, and what makes them feel beautiful.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road, but I think that’s part of what makes building something of your own so rewarding. One of my biggest challenges has been learning how to turn a creative idea into a sustainable business. Having a vision is one thing; understanding the logistics, finances, marketing, inventory, e-commerce, and everything happening behind the scenes is another.

I’ve also had to learn patience. There have been moments when I questioned whether I was moving fast enough or doing enough, especially when the results didn’t immediately match the effort I was putting in. Entrepreneurship can be exciting, but it can also be very humbling because there isn’t always a clear roadmap.

Another challenge has been finding the right balance between staying true to what I originally envisioned and allowing the brand to evolve. I’ve learned that growth sometimes means being willing to adjust, experiment, make mistakes, and try again.

What has kept me going is knowing that I’m building something that genuinely represents me and what I believe in. Every obstacle has taught me something new, whether it was about business, branding, or simply trusting myself. I don’t look at the difficult moments as setbacks anymore; I see them as part of the process that is shaping both me and lust x lingeRai into what we’re meant to become.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work really sits at the intersection of fashion, photography, content creation, and storytelling. I’m an entrepreneur, but I’m also a creative at heart, so I’m very hands-on with the visual side of what I create. Whether I’m developing a lingerie collection, planning a photoshoot, creating content for social media, or figuring out how to tell a brand story, I’m always thinking about the feeling and experience behind the finished product.

Through lust x lingeRai, I specialize in creating intimate apparel that feels expressive, feminine, and fashion-forward, while building a brand that encourages women to feel comfortable exploring their own sense of sensuality. Photography and content creation have become a huge part of that process because I believe how you present something can be just as important as the product itself.

I’m also known for creating lifestyle and fashion content, particularly through social media. I enjoy finding ways to make a product, place, or experience feel aspirational while still being relatable. My background in journalism and film production has really influenced that approach — I’m always looking for the story, the visual, and the detail that makes someone stop scrolling.

What I’m most proud of is that I’ve been able to bring all of these interests together instead of putting myself into one box. I can be behind the camera, in front of it, developing a concept, creating the content, and building the business around it. That versatility is a big part of what sets me apart.

I think what makes my work different is that I’m not just interested in selling a product or creating something that looks good. I want there to be a feeling attached to it. Whether it’s through photography, fashion, content, or lingeRai, I want people to connect with what I create and see a little bit of themselves in it.

Any big plans?
I’m really excited about what the future holds and the different directions I’m able to take everything I’ve been building. I see the next chapter as a period of expansion — not just for lingeRai, but for me creatively as well. I want to continue growing the brand, creating more visually, collaborating with other creatives, and finding new ways to connect with women through fashion, content, and experiences.

I’m also interested in exploring opportunities that allow me to bring my background in photography, film, and storytelling into the business in bigger ways. I love the idea of creating something that people can experience rather than simply purchase, and I think there’s a lot of room for lingeRai to evolve in that direction.

There are a few things I’m working on behind the scenes that I’m not quite ready to announce yet, but I’m excited to share them when the time is right. I’ve learned that part of building something special is allowing people to watch the journey unfold. So for now, I’m focused on growing, experimenting, meeting the right people, and continuing to create. I think the next chapter will give people an even better idea of what I’ve been envisioning all along.
