Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul White
Hi Paul, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After spending over 25 years honing and syncing my personal character and my public character, I achieved a community leadership role that I embraced in an effort to have a positive influence on as many people as I could each and every day. Helping others drove my ongoing character development and is what had me jumping out of bed each day excited about what that day would offer as opportunities to serve others. Then Covid happened. The drycleaning business that had provided income for our family and provided control over how I spent time each day couldn’t sustain itself with people working from home. I was losing money with every day we remained open. Left without a workable solution, I closed the business and watched our family’s biggest asset go “poof” and disappear. What happened next was discouraging. I felt lost and cut off from the community I had functioned so well within. The love and respect that others had consistently shared with me had been closely associated with the business more than with the person I was. While I wasn’t treated poorly, people seemed indifferent to what I felt I still had to offer. I realized I needed to re-invent myself and give the members of our community a new Paul White that they could believe in based on the personal and public character they had been inspired by previously. The greatest thing I had going for me was that my personal and public character were consistent and intact.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Many people saw the closing of our business as a failure when in reality it was a brilliant business move. The perception most people had in our community was based on such a small amount of information. It’s something I understood from the beginning. That’s how human nature works. My concern wasn’t with what people thought of me, rather, I became laser-focused on giving them something they could believe in beyond the “up until covid success” of our business. That’s when I became a syndicated columnist with a weekly column that focuses on a positive perspective on things we all face in life. That led to the book I wrote “The Answer Discovery” which is a book designed to help people believe in themselves and then utilize that belief to help others. People now see me in a completely different light versus when I was running the business.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
A easier question to answer is: What was it that inspired you to take action reinventing yourself? During a talk-show radio interview, the host claimed that I’m the most positive person he has ever met. I never wallowed in my sorrow when I closed the business. I took the path that has served me well my entire life. That path is best described as “Instant acceptance of fate and building my life around the circumstances that present themselves.” That led to examining opportunities, picking the ones that best matched up with my skill sets, and embarking on a new adventure fueled with the passion I have for all that I do. Life seems so much easier when we’re able to skip the “Why ME?” phase that bogs the majority of us down and prevents us from pursuing our personal destiny.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Whenever a person does as much as they can, for as many as they can, for as long as they can. Also, the most successful people I know are the ones focused on helping others achieve success.
