Check Out Pat Johns’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pat Johns.

Hi Pat, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was the manager with Another company for a couple years before one of the owners passed and I saw an opportunity–to own my own business. I wanted to do that quickly so as not to lose any of the very loyal customers. Throughout the years we’ve made many changes. We’ve enlarged the store, doubling the space, and we’ve been going strong ever since. My daughter, Tammi, has stepped up as a partner and together we’re making the necessary changes to keep with the times. We’ve started doing new things, such as floral and design classes, holding baby and bridal showers, loaning out a flower bar for events. We do weddings, funerals, a variety of local Holland events, even working with local schools on prom planning, theater productions, and graduations. We love what we do and it shows–our repeat customers truly feel like family to us.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We have had struggles, one of the biggest being COVID. We needed to get rid of all our product within one day! We did whatever we could, even taking flowers to care facilities as donations. Then we closed our doors for a few months. It was hard for us–as I’m sure it was for everyone–to get back in the swing of things, when we reopened. But, we did it!

Now, the current struggle is price changes. It’s so hard. But we have to raise prices to keep our small business what it is today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We’re most proud of the fact that we don’t do any online ordering at all! We do everything either face-to-face or over the phone. We feel it adds a personal touch, and allows us to give our customers exactly what they need and want. We specialize in the smaller details, the things that make arrangements truly unique and one-of-a-kind. We never make the same arrangement twice! Our talented designers have a way of making that happen. We’re very proud of being set apart from others, especially in the longevity of our flowers. They last one to two weeks, if well taken care of.

What’s next?
We make changes as needed, but why change a good thing?
