Today we’d like to introduce you to Nia Thompson.
Hi Nia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well, I’ve always struggled with self-love as a kid. When my eczema flared up really bad, I’d go days without revealing any skin and wearing the biggest sweaters and turtlenecks I could find. I used to hide myself from the rest of the world until one day I decided I wanted to stand out and speak out for myself. My mother would sit with entrepreneurs and assist them in starting their businesses, which inspired me to create my own company. We decided to form Lyric Symone + Co., named after me, Nia Lyric Symone, after I told her how I wanted to reclaim my power and create something to help others reclaim their confidence.
I intended to use the time I was out of school during the pandemic to focus on my business, and I stumbled across the Epicentre Uwindsor. There, I met other like-minded people and began competing in pitch competitions and organizing workshops to help me establish myself as a businesswoman. I can assure you that what is meant for you will not be missed.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been a simple journey. As an entrepreneur, you are responsible for everything on your own, which might be difficult. You may feel as if everything is in place one minute and then wonder, “What do I do now?” the next. Comparing myself and Lyric Symone + Co. to others has been one of my own problems as a business owner. Fortunately, once I was free of the imposter syndrome, I learned that I truly believed myself and embrace where I was at the time, eczema flares and all. And while there a so many talented creatives out there, that I have my own path to walk down.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I love about being a creative, is that I can pick up anything and run with it. Since I started my Entreprenurial journey, I have learned to incorporate my art designs to my products, and that’s something Lyric Symone + Co. will be launching pretty soon. Lyric Symone is a jewelry accessories brand that provides signature pieces for the everyday girl to know she is truly THAT girl and can do whatever the hell she wants to do. I’m so excited to say that I am the founder of this beautiful brand and am proud to see myself evolving to be the best founder to see other women grow to be their authentic selves. What sets my brand apart from other jewelry brands apart is that I want to create a community that supports one another. I will be launching a blog soon that talks about showing up as your best self and bringing inspiring women from other industries to talk about what they do to stay healthy and how they show up shamelessly.
What matters most to you? Why?
Love matters to me the most. One thing about me, I love to love. I love my the one above all, my family and friends, and I love a delicious bowl of ice cream. I love when I hear the good news of someone doing their passion for the first time, and I love when I have a conversation with someone, and we can walk away with shivers down our spines and a new, fresh perspective. The reason I love to love is just little things like that because I want more movie moments than depressing days. I think that’s why I want my brand to portray me as much as I can because I want people to know it’s more that just money to me, I want you to have something that will remind you to love yourself and the people around you because life is too short.
