Today we’d like to introduce you to Myesha Riley-Johnson.
Hi Myesha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was working in a very lucrative career as a school central office Administrator. I had long hours and lots of stress. I had a second baby and was spending half of my pay on a sitter. I knew I needed to make a change. I was so tired of companies using my skills, but I never received incentive or promotion. In 2020 I had a close friend to die and lost my dad in 2021. I knew then that life was just too short and precious to not live out your dreams and aspirations.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I first started the business, I didn’t have a clue where to start. It was a long Journey of Research and help from others in the same industry. There was a lot of financial cost associated with start-up and I had no capital at all. Only what I may have had out of my paycheck after bills.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an Event Service, food truck, and Pop-up Restaurant specializing in Carribean Soul food. I am most proud that I can create delicious meals from my African American culture that doesn’t cause diabetes or high blood pressure. I am most proud that I am able to connect my childhood cooking lessons from my grandmother who I most adored into a career I love and share with others. What sets me apart from others is I built a successful food business with little to no capital and have grown it within a year. I provide face painting balloon twisting and more party favors along with food.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
Do what you love, and the money will follow. Don’t share with everyone your dreams and aspirations… I wish I had of knew more seasoned people with experience in the field.
