Check Out Michelle Welsh’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Welsh

Hi Michelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Going through my cancer battle changed my perspective in life and I ultimately set out a path to change my future for my own well being while inspiring and supporting others going through similar health journeys. In the spring of 2022, I knew I wanted to create a business that had a purposeful mission and provided me with an artistic outlet. I have always found joy in creating art through making jewelry, painting or other forms of crafting. As I got older, I realized that where I spent my money mattered to me. I simply started by purchasing from companies that aligned with my values. I even prefer to buy my cosmetics, toiletries and toilet paper from reputable companies that have a mission and purpose attached.

After my last chemo treatment for breast cancer in the summer of 2022, I started to build out my plan for the LLC I established, called Heart and Hustle Design. My Dad is an expert welder and he ultimately taught me the skills needed to understand welding different metals. If it was not for his advice, my confidence in welding could not have been established through the online courses I was taking. Sparked with Purpose Permanent Jewelry was born in the early spring of 2023.
Months prior to opening my service to the public, I invested a lot of money on what I call “jewelry guinea pigs.” I welded on friends that would be purposefully hard on jewelry- for instance, a 6ft man who does construction.
Currently, I have been advancing my education through the Crested Butte Metalsmithing School and I am launching my online fine jewelry line that includes custom made and one of a kind engagement rings. The website is heartandhustledesign.jewelershowcase.com. I have a team of jewelers I work with through the #1 supplier in the world. Its all very exciting to learn this part of the jewelry business world and to be able to offer this to my clients at a fraction of the price of storefront jewelers.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My mission is to support cancer survivors with a gifted amount that I raise through at least 10% of my permanent jewelry proceeds and 100% of tips given for my services. Year to date I am beating my goal of 10% and currently sit at 19% gifted back. I am proud to say that in 2024 alone, over $6,700 has been gifted back to east Michigan cancer survivors and non-profits that support cancer survivors, like the Betty Kearns Cancer Fund and Hunter Hospitality House in the Blue Water area. My mission touches the lives of many people who even drive over an hour to come sit in my chair and share their own cancer stories while we create a unique piece of jewelry for them.
I am proud to offer the best 14kt gold filled, rose gold and 92.5 sterling silver options for bracelets, anklets and necklaces at the most affordable prices in the industry. I do not believe in price gouging as I want everyone to be able to afford beautiful custom fit jewelry. I am known for having a people over profits mentality and leading with heart. If a breast cancer survivor comes across my event and sits in my chair, I am known for gifting them something from my business. They never expect it, but its a way to brighten their day and mine!

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Don’t let others intimidate your dreams. Live with purpose of helping others. Live with a big heart and be generous. Each day you can make a difference in the community.
