Check Out Michael Mondy’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Mondy.

Hi Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I come from and I am very proud to come from a blue-collar family of sharecroppers and farmers, who lived in Grenada and Duckhill Mississippi. I am one of four siblings. We didn’t have much money but my father was a hardworking man who loved his family very much. Quite frankly, “he was the one and only idol and example I ever needed. Along with my father, my grandparents were a very vital part of my development. I live by their morals and passions they instilled in me. My dream was to always make them proud because they put so much energy into me. My relationship with my mother was strained at best. I knew she loved me but she was dealing with her own demons at that time. I am proud of where she is in her life and she continues to strive. After a brief stint in college, I joined the Navy and spent 6 years honorably serving my country. After the Navy, I joined the law enforcement community in Pensacola Florida. I spent 3 years with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. I decided at that time to pursue a career in the Bail Bond business but I was still working for someone else and making them rich. I’ve lived in Michigan, California, Illinois, and Georgia, always trying to strive to be the best me I could be. In 1999, while working as Bail Bondsman, I decided that I wanted to leave a legacy for my family, so I decided to start a mobile detailing business in Jacksonville Florida. I moved my business to California for about 8 months in 2000. In 2001, I moved back home to Grand Rapids Michigan, which for the first 10 years, I felt was the biggest mistake I’ve ever made. I kicked around security jobs, and bail bonds again and even tried printing t-shirts and started a commercial cleaning company. All went belly up. I finally decided to get back into detailing and it has been the best decision I could have made for myself. Now I mentor at-risk teens, train youth athletes and try and give young folks with little or no direction to believe in themselves by building an emotional and intellectual foundation to navigate this thing called life. I always say, “no bachelor’s degree but I have a” PHD IN LIFE”! I lost my father in 2020 but I made him a promise before he died, and that is to make the Mondy name something of respect and I will honor him till the day I die!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Let down, no direction, and not focusing on the things to get me into positions to be successful. Found out at 35 years old I was ADHD. It kind of explained why I made some choices and impulsive decisions in the past. But most of all during the tough times, I had no confidence. It took a lot of nights on my knees praying for forgiveness for my past and guidance for the future. God worked it out and I’m still standing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love putting a smile on the face of someone who thought it was impossible. I make the lives of my clients a little easier by providing a service that allows them to go about their busy lives without worrying about the things and services I provide. I take pride in being professional, dependable, courteous and most of all being personable.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I’ve been doing this for thirty years and I always try and keep up with new trends, etc. to keep me in the loop so to speak. This industry is only going to grow. Cars, homes, boats, RVs, etc. all will be here and need to be cleaned.
