Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Braun.
Hi Mark, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Professional pianist 50 years. Studied with premier 1st generation blues pianists in 1970’s and 80’s.
Toured internationally dozens of times, multiple interviews on NPR and APB. Founded Mr. B’s JOYBOX Express, a non profit that raises funds for children’s art and athletic programs by touring on a tricycle with 350lb. piano aboard. Many recordings and projects with prominent blues and jazz artists.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Learning my style of piano put me in a very different culture when I was very young. Many exciting challenges, some dangerous elements at play.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My time spent with 1st generation blues and jazz artists exposed me to expectations and experiences that can’t be had by today’s young players. The non profit I founded is without hyperbole unlike anything anyone else has undertaken. I’ve also curated and presented a first rate piano festival for 29 years.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I was a semi professional baseball player, and am a furniture designer and maker.
