Today we’d like to introduce you to Madhurima Ganguly

Hi Madhurima, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in India, Kolkata. I loved art from very young age. I started to learn art since the age of 2. At that young age it was just a hobby. But as I aged I loved it so much that I only wanted to become an artist. I do not remember to ever wanted to be anyone else than who I am today. Because I always wanted to be an artist the journey become very easy. Easy means I knew exactly what I wanted and once you know what you want most of your work is done then and there. Depending on your goal you find the way and thats exactly what happened to me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I should not say it was smooth road but It was not that tough. What I mean by that is when I see my contemporaries or other artists around me I feel I am incredibly lucky. My struggles are not that tough as theirs. But as an artist it is always hard to sustain. Creating work or art and showing in galleries is hard always.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do paintings and drawing mostly on paper and cloth/canvas. However I have my masters specializing in Sculpture. But I choose painting as my practice. I primarily work with Water color and Ink. I do use a lot of gold leaf in my works and sometimes acrylic paint too. My works are mainly figurative abstract. I use a lot of references from female body and nature and a lot of Hindu mythology. I draw inspiration from my culture too. I do not know what I am known for. I think others can answer that better. I am definitely very proud of my practice, specially when I see where I have started and how far I have come. My determination and my perseverance sets me apart from others.
