Check Out Madeline Hopkins’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madeline Hopkins

Hi Madeline, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in a highly creative household, spending most days doing crafts, singing, dancing and more. Inspired by my family, becoming an artist was definitely in my cards.
I started creating art and selling my work on the internet and at art show around the year 2015 and still do under my business name Lunar Bugg. Using social media like TikTok and Instagram as a way to boost my art business I started posting more regularly, seeing it work for so many others.
Growing up I had a lot of favorite content creators and it was always a small dream of mine to maybe one day get to have a community of my own. As my following grew on TikTok I realized I could use my social media for more then just advertising my art, I could use it to connect with people all over the world, who enjoy similar things that I do. I am not quite what you’d call an influencer but I have a community even if its small and I love them all the same.
I started going to college for graphic design in 2018 and am set to graduate this year (2024). I use this skill for my art business but also for freelance work for other fellow Michigan small businesses.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a grown up will always come with its difficulty’s and I have been fairly lucky to have not have had any serious struggles. But things happen, like in 2023 I lost my job due to business closing and struggled with feeling worthy in a job market that is pretty bleak. But I have been on a long journey trying to find my purpose and getting back on the right road. I finally feel as though I am right where I am supposed to be. One of the most important things I have learned in my life is that if you are struggling it is okay to lean on those you love.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a freelance graphic designer and I have done tons of cool projects for local Michigan businesses like this past summer I did a film project for the Michigan Inventors Coalition Inventors Expo where I filmed and edited interviews and talks for their website. I also do some social media work for a Michigan made product called Ultimate Pain Salve.
When I have more free time I spend it creating pieces to sell or creating more fun designs for my business to make into stickers, prints, apparel and more.
My ultimate goal in life is to never stop creating and making things with my hands. To always feel inspired by my own work and those around me.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
That you never know when your entire world could be flipped upside down so keep your friends and family close and tell them you love them lots. I also probably wouldn’t have survived covid if not for my mom bringing me my vitamins lol.
