Check Out Lowell Miller’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lowell Miller.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up surrounded by the love of the outdoors whether it be metal detecting the yard as a kid, squirrel hunting with my dad, or spending the day out fishing with the family. It all added up to make me who I am today. Now I live my life as self-sufficient as possible Foraging from the land, harvesting fish and game, and sharing whatever knowledge and adventures I may have on my YouTube channel. Each season I do my best to show all of the aspects of our Michigan outdoors. Foraging, metal detecting, fishing, hunting, trapping, and gardening. I grew up in a small town in Michigan called Oscoda which happens to be near the mouth of the beautiful AuSable River and I was a stone’s throw from VanEtten Lake. I was blessed with my outdoor upbringing to learn all that I have and to be able to share with others. Now I live on a small 5-acre farm in Alcona County, Mi with my animal friends.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Although growing up with my outdoor passions helped mold me into a good-hearted man life didn’t come without struggles. As a kid, my father, who bless his heart was the nicest man I ever knew in my life once he overcame his addiction, was a violent alcoholic. I also had to overcome my same struggles with that as well as the depression and anxiety that came with it all between memories and lack thereof. After my father overcame his addiction, our family was much closer and we spent as much time as possible together. As I had thought I had overcome the worst obstacles in life I was proven wrong when I lost my father to cancer in 2015 and my mother shortly after to cancer in 2020. We had all been so close and it took a huge chunk of my heart and soul along with them, not to mention brought me back into a darkness and deep depression. If it wasn’t for the outdoors and my love for nature, I wouldn’t have made it as far as I have today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have worked many different jobs in my life and I’m proud of the experience that I’ve gained which each of them but over the years I found myself unhappy and knew I needed to go my own direction. Although it has been a huge struggle starting from the bottom with nothing really to invest, I have started my YouTube channel LToutdoors which by the grace of god has taken off and gives me a reason to smile every day. My dreams are slowly becoming a reality each year. I also have a nuisances animal control business where I live trap wildlife from around houses and release them to the wild where they’ll thrive and enjoy life. Honestly not a day passes that I don’t wish my parents could see how far I’ve come in this journey. I know they smiling down and proud of my accomplishments.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe in karma more than I do pure luck. Every day I do all I can to be the best person I can be, life is so short and we never know how much time we have so we have to make it count for something. I feel the more good I put into the world the more good I might get in return.
