Check Out Larry Lee’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Larry Lee.

Hi Larry , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Dayton Ohio in the 70s and at that time Dayton was known as the land of fiunk. It was the home of national funk bands like The Ohio Players, Lakeside, Slave, Heatwave, Faze-O, and others. Some of the members of those groups were my neighbors. So the Ohio Players made it big 1st so most of us kids wanted to make music and be like them. I was Blessed not only with musical talent I was also a pretty good athlete. So in 6th grade I started playing football and the bass guitar. Continued doing both in high school at a very high level. Iwas bass player for a band called Soul Explosion and a high school All American in football. So my Sr year it all started to be very demanding so the manager of the band asked me to make a decision one way or the other about what comes 1st in my life and I chose football. I had my choice of colleges that offered me a scholarship and chose UCLA. I went on there and became an All American there and was drafted in the NFL by the Detroit Lions. At that time I wasn’t playing my bass at all. After an 8 year playing career. I was offered a job in the Lions organization as an executive. I spent another 9 years with the Lions as VP of Football Operations. Still not playing my bass. After a upper management change by the owners of the Lions I was fired. So I went back to one of my 1st loves music. I started playing my bass again and started a band with outstanding professional musicians from Detroit and named it Larry Lee and Back In The Day. In our 24 year existence we have performed on stages all around the world with the industry’s finest from Super Bowls to national conventions too numerous to mention. We have an upcoming summer full of shows and still climbing. Please peruse our website www.bitdlive.com for more info.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Once my football career ended and I went back to music a lot of the professional musicians thought that I was an amateur and not on their level after all I was an athlete. So I intentionally would begin our show with a bass solo to let the audience know that I was a beast on bass.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
