Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Amador.
Hi Krystal, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I learned to crochet in the Summer of 2014 while on a weekend trip to Texas. When I returned home to Michigan, I found a few people that I knew also knew how to crochet and were a big help to me being a beginner. Needless to say, I was hooked and have been since! In the beginning, I was practicing and perfecting crochet stitches and techniques.
I made quite a few things for friends and family who later suggested that I move forward with my craft by becoming a business. I really enjoy working with cotton and discovered a whole new world with it.
A versatile eco-friendly material was my focus to create household items. Cotton has been in our homes for decades. It is a washable, pliable, and colorful piece of nature that help your daily tasks be more enjoyable.
When one discovers something, they like and enjoy, of course, there is a rabbit hole! I went down the rabbit hole with crochet and don’t regret it. I absolutely love everything about the crochet community from the people to the generosity.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with anything, there have been bumps in the road. Taking my hobby to a business was challenging to me, I discovered I was not alone in this endeavor. The connections I made in the community quickly turned into friendships I cherish to this day.
In the beginning, I struggled with yarn tension. Too tight and I couldn’t get the crochet hook into the stitch, too loose and the stitch would be too big and not uniform.
Something else I struggled with is pricing. A family member would say to price it one way, a friend would say to price it a different way. Ladies I have met and become friends within the crochet community tell me to charge what I am worth, and I am doing just that.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the crochet maker and designer behind Eco-Minded Stitches. From social media to customer service, I do it all! I am a one-woman business. An email that lands in your inbox, I authored. A social media post that sparked your interest, I created that too.
I specialize in crochet designs using cotton and cotton blend yarns to create items for you and your home that are Eco-Friendly.
I like to think I am known for sharing my passion of Living Sustainably with others.
I am most proud that I am a published crochet designer with Happily Hooked Magazine. I have many crochet patterns that are published both exclusively and non-exclusively with Happily Hooked since April of 2021.
Everyone has something that sets them apart from others. I do believe I am eco-focused and that’s what sets me apart.
What are your plans for the future?
There is always something brewing in the background at Eco-Minded Stitches. Since I plan quarterly, I am currently working on plans for the Spring of 2023.
I do plan on blogging more to reach a wider audience.
