Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Ebel.
Hi Kristin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Sure! I started with a little digital camera from my parents in junior high. My senior year, I got my first DSLR and my passion and fascination in photography grew immensely. My Dad was a film photography hobbyist during his school years, and he shared his passion for photography with me & passed me down his Nikon FE2. I’ve always been inspired by nature, the wilderness, and the deep beauty of Earth. I started photographing nature and beautiful places I love to visit like the Adirondacks, National Parks like Zion, Death Valley, the Rocky Mountains and more. I shifted my focus into portraits when what I value in a photograph changed—after I lost my mom I almost immediately started grasping for pictures and photo albums. Then years later when I became a mother myself, I basically couldn’t put my camera down because I wanted to capture every moment of our family(: I started shooting weddings when we moved to Michigan and fell in love with capturing the beautiful chaos and sentimental joy of these highly cherished celebrations. And everything just kind of grew from there. Photos are amazing little time capsules that can bring us back to relive the joy, love, and beauty of the past and I love being able to make pictures for people to cherish. I aim to make meaningful art for my clients with photos of their special moments and give them a one of a kind experience that makes them feel cared for & goes above and beyond.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve had struggles with balancing life and creative work, specifically being a mother of 2 littles. I’ve been learning how to outsource small tasks to make life easier, but really I wouldn’t be able to pursue this creative path without the loving support of my husband and family. Their support & encouragement is everything and I am very grateful for that.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer, and I specialize in weddings and portraits on film and digital. Medium format film photography is my favorite part of my creative process. The beauty that I perceive to be distilled in a film image is something I struggle to find the words to describe. It really is magical! There is a mysterious, dreamy depth that exists in film – that really can’t be replicated by digital, and I like being able to offer that as apart of my service (:
Any big plans?
I’m looking forward to seeing where this photo journey goes and really just slowing down to enjoy the simple things in life with my family, our doggo Monte, and our chickens & ducks.
