Today we’d like to introduce you to Karl Murphy.
Hi Karl, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m Karl, A.K.A. K.Murph or “Murph”, I’m the oldest of four from the Westside of Detroit. I have had a love for music and entertainment my entire life. I’ve been writing raps since elementary school, played several instruments, sang in choirs, and even took apart in play production. What drove me here to this point and keeps me going is my passion and love for what I do. I couldn’t imagine my life without music nor without me making music somehow someway. I never had anyone in my family be as heavy into the music the way that I am so everything is pretty much ground up with my camp and I.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
To be completely honest, my road hasn’t been smooth at all, but that doesn’t mean that my journey isn’t worth it. Having no clear direction was a struggle in itself, but there’s really no blueprint for this. From finding a home to record with a quality sound, inconsistent engineers and producers, etc. Not even mention the financial bumps that may come along the way on this independent grind it’s just not always easy.
Before recent years even accessing other creatives as far as videographers, graphic designers, and things like that was more of a struggle. I’m glad that people are more accessible to work these days. Collaborations are everything.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well first, I’m a hard worker. I’m a music artist, mainly rap, but I write R&B too. I love writing music, especially story like rhymes. I like for my music to sort of connect line to line with some content. I’m known for my wordplay, punchlines, rhyme schemes, versatility as well as well as my ability to paint mental pictures.
I’m most proud of my consistency and my versatility. I feel like I can rap on any beat, any tempo, any style as well with any artist, and my verse will surely stand solid.
I think my qualities are exactly what set me aside from others. I’m not just another guy out here rhyming; I can make it make sense as well as sound good.
Check out my projects, “Church On Saturday” being my latest. Available on all streaming platforms as well as “Real Eyes Realize” and “The Grey Area”.
What matters most to you? Why?
Being a good person means the most to me if we are talking life but musically content. As a consumer, I care about content because I don’t like to listen to music that lacks effort. Some stuff is cool for a vibe or a certain environment, such as a party or something, but as the type of consumer I am, I like music that I can feel. I think artists should actually write more too.
Another thing that is very important and somehow often overlooked is doing good business. Being professional and doing good business matters.
