Today we’d like to introduce you to K1 Soundz.
K1 Soundz, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in a household where all different styles of music were played. I started writing raps when I was about 10 years old and started producing at the age of 14. My father played the guitar and that influenced me to want to learn to play the keyboard at a young age. Once I learned how to make beats with my new machine. I realized that music was something I really wanted to do.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I was diagnosed at the age 36 with congenital cardiomyopathy, which I had since birth. I had not had any complications with it until 2013. At this time, I had almost 10years on my job. I had to leave my job because of my illness. At this time, I received a defibrillator/pacemaker. Was this a sign for me to take my career to the next level? I took it as so and decided to go as hard as I could with creating music. In 2018 we had music on the radio in the south (Keep it 100) and things were in the making to happen. But once again I became really ill, but this time it was worst. No one even knew if I would survive. Luckily, I received a second opinion from another hospital and received the LVAD that I needed to survive. After a long recovery, I again decided that music was my passion and nothing could stop me from achieving my goals.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Producer, Artist, and co-CEO of Keepum Up Records. I manage King Dif as an artist and also cinematographer, Aye Yo Nino (Safehouse Media). I love that I’m able to multitask in this industry and not be pigeonholed into one art of music. In this music industry, I want to be known as a creator and not just an artist or a producer but an artist and a producer/management.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success Is reaching the goals you set for yourself. And not the goals others set for you.
