Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Abbott.
Hi Julie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi there- I am a self-taught artist. I actually graduated from Western Michigan University with a business degree in 1995. I’ve always been a creative person and have enjoyed channeling creative energy into lots of different projects. I have two children- My son Ben who is 22 and My daughter Willow who is 20. Shortly after my daughter was born, I went on a vacation with friends to a really artsy community in Florida. Inspired by all of the wonderful art I saw, I decided to dabble in painting on canvases and within a couple of years, I established Julie Abbott Art and began selling my art online and in my community. My grandmother was a fabulously talented artist whose chosen medium was oil paint. I paint with acrylic paint. So, 20 years into this I stay as busy as I can doing custom orders & I sell my art online and at Eclections Boutique in Fenton, Michigan. Throughout the past 20 years I’ve gone from painting as a part-time side hustle to full-time artist. Currently I have a full-time job as a Staff Accountant for Skypoint Ventures in Flint, Michigan. But you can find me in my studio painting away most evenings and weekends.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, it has not always been a smooth road, however, it’s always been fun and exciting to create my artwork. The struggles and challenges have always been with the “business side” of Julie Abbott Art. I do rely on the revenue from selling my paintings to supplement my income so keeping busy is really essential. That being said, I can get overwhelmed if I’m “too” busy, so I have to be disciplined and remind myself to keep a balance in my life. I do really enjoy the marketing/ social media aspect of being in business for myself and I have never gotten tired of the work of creating art.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I think what sets my artwork apart is that it is very colorful. whimsical and I use A LOT of words, quotes, sayings that seem to be very relatable. The experiences from my own life, happy things & challenging things, make their way into my work. It’s a fantastic way for me to express myself this way and I really feel lucky to have found this gift I can use in my life.

I fell in love with your art the first time I saw it and immediately bought a piece at The FIA. It still hangs in our family room and I hope that it finds a happy home when I no longer need it.
