Today we’d like to introduce you to JoAnna Woods. 

Hi JoAnna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve pretty much been an artisan my entire life. I’ve always enjoyed anything from painting to creating wearable art. I wholeheartedly believe that I am not fully living if I am not creating something! 

Prior to leatherwork, I spent time designing and handcrafting coasters, jewelry, and clothing, as both a hobby & a side hustle. My interest in leatherwork came about on a sleepless night in 2017 – the night I stumbled across a leatherworking video after binging YouTube. The patience in the process drew me in; I instantly fell in love! 

Since then, I’ve spent my years developing my brand and creating minimalist and timeless designs. Taking care to make sure that each piece will only become more beautiful with time. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all! My biggest struggle was learning to market my brand (which is a never-ending battle)! It’s also been an adjustment filing quarterly reports, etc.; the whole business side of things. I’m a one-woman show, so I’ve definitely had a learning curve. 

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in one-of-a-kind, hand-painted, full-grain leather goods. What sets me apart from other leatherworkers is the fact that each piece I create is 100% hand-stitched, using the saddle-stitch method; which creates a stitch that is quite stronger than that of a machine, by the way! I am best known for my small accessories; think, cardholders and clutches. I am most proud of custom items I have created for others that took me out of my comfort zone.
