Today we’d like to introduce you to Jhordyn Auguste
Hi Jhordyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story as a stylist began when I was 19. At the time I was going to school for business administration but I hated it, and decided to drop out. I didn’t feel fulfilled in what I was doing. Fashion was always a passion of mine but I was nervous to pursue that path because it was unknown. Also I was completely unsure on what I wanted to do in fashion. In 2022, a couple days after my 22nd birthday God confirmed that styling was my calling. Now almost 3 years after THAT moment of making a decision to commit, I’ve received so many amazing opportunities and God deserves all the glory. This is the most fulfilled I’ve ever felt. Galatians 1:12 – For indeed I did not receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but it received it through a direct revelation of Jesus Christ.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course not, starting something new will always have bumps in the road. It’s all about how you adapt and overcome those experiences. My biggest struggle so far has been the financial aspect. To be a stylist you have to be really good with your money. Save up for passion projects that you want to do, create a budget and stick to it! Do your research on styling as a whole too, before you do anything. From there test out your skills, don’t be afraid to bring your exact ideas to life. Be yourself and truly appreciate your work.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Of course! I’m a Fashion Stylist and aspiring designer. I am currently focusing on my styling career getting involved in various fashion shows in Detroit and New York. I also work on my own passion projects, with modeling agencies and brands to further develop their footprint in this ever growing industry. I am known for keeping things exciting! Being unconventional and letting an outfit speak for itself, I’m changing the definition of what Cozi really means, along with the spelling. There’s been so many amazing opportunities that I’ve received just from choosing to start. So that’s something I’m really most proud of. I had 0 experience starting out, and just used my passion for styling to drive me. That got me all the way to New York Fashion Week and that’s something I never thought I’d experience so early in my career. I’m very grateful and just getting started. I believe what sets me apart is that I’m very detail oriented. Drawing attention to things in the outfit that people wouldn’t see unless they have an eye for it, if a garment isn’t laying the right way I go back to the drawing board. I will always be committed to making it perfect for whoever I have the privilege of styling.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I strongly believe that God deserves all the credit. He is my biggest cheerleader and advocate. He confirms everything that he puts on my heart through the people he’s put in my life. My closest friends, friends I’ve gained through fashion that just get it. He’s blessed me with amazing parents,my sister, grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles and everyone that’s poured into me and encouraged me in my craft. Every time I forget who I am they remind me and that motivates me to produce the work that I do. So I’ll always be forever grateful for all of them. I’m also thankful for every client that’s taken a chance on me and trusted me with whatever they requested. Especially when I was first starting out. I had no idea what I was doing but they still trusted me and I will always appreciate that.
