Check Out Jerica Scott’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerica Scott. 

Hi Jerica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Fini Candles was named after my late grandmother whose nickname was Fini. For as long as I can remember I’ve always had a love for fragrance whether be it perfume, body products, cleaning products, and of course home fragrances like candles. This passion quickly turned career in 2020 while feeling stuck at my 9-5. I quit my secure 9-5 to follow my heart and used my last paycheque to buy candle-making supplies. I had been researching candle making for 2 years prior and feel in love with idea of making my own, I came up with several business models of candle companies before I landed and decided on Fini, an eco-luxe soy wax candle brand. 

From its conception in November of 2020 till now, we have experienced an overwhelming amount of love and support from our local community and the surrounding areas of Ontario. So much so that we were able to open a storefront with a production space this past October of 2021. we couldn’t be more grateful to continue to learn and grow and can’t wait to see what the upcoming year has in store for us. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our lovely Instagram feed would give you a rose-colored perspective of our journey, but behind the scenes, we have definitely faced our fair share of hardships. From late shipments, out-of-stock ingredients, and damaged goods; it can be a challenging learning curve to accept things won’t always be perfect and sometimes even completely out of your control. 

We at one point were sold out of our cartoons scent, (one of our most popular; it smells like fruit loops) for over a month and half. It was out of stock from our supplier for 2 weeks, and then when it was back in stock our shipment got delayed and took another 4 weeks to get to us. Most recently I received a batch of wood wicks that weren’t the right size and we had a huge order for wood wick candles and a short time frame. 

I wanted to be frustrated but it’s the times like those that teach you the biggest lessons, like stocking, a lot of pre-stocking. As well as patience, kindness, and appreciation for every step of the way. 

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Fini is a fragrance and lifestyle brand that focuses on being eco-luxe. our goal is to create and offer luxury soy candles without any toxins or waste. 

We pride ourselves on only using the most premium ingredients will still being eco-friendly in our packaging and processing. We use unique tin vessels for our collection as they are more sustainable, have a lower carbon footprint while producing, and easier to recycle. When we use other vessels, we also ensure they have a high post-consumer recyclability rate to reduce waste where we can. 

We are proud to say our candles are also clean burning with no phthalates, parabens, or carcinogenic ingredients, this means you can burn our candles with peace of mind knowing it’s safe for you and your family. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Since opening Fini we have felt like the stars have aligned for us many times. From market vendor spots opening on the same weekends, we had availability to getting our storefront in the town and location we wanted. I feel extremely lucky and grateful for all the times the universe has graced us. Luck and opportunities will always arise with determination and a positive mindset.
