Check Out Jennifer Bowman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Bowman.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I moved from Virginia to Michigan in 2011, newly married and completely unaware of what it was like to live anywhere other than where I’d grown up. My husband and I were young and knew nothing about the Midwest, so we took that as an opportunity to explore our surroundings and started traveling all over Michigan. I’d always enjoyed writing, so I started a blog to share my thoughts and experiences with anyone who would read, and that’s how Wading in Big Shoes was born.

Over the years, I’ve expanded my personal expertise and interests to grow and develop an engaged social media community, content creation agency, and online resale boutique (the last of which I co-own with my husband). It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions along the way, but I love being free to incorporate the things I love into what I do for a living.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oof. Does anyone NOT experience struggle when building something they care about? Haha–it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and I still face challenges every step of the way. Aside from trying to figure out what on earth I wanted to do with my life over the past *mumbles number* of years, I also deal with anxiety and depression, which make decision-making and acting on my dreams a real challenge. I’ve been doing better over the past year with treatment and therapy, but there are definitely days where I still flounder and start to doubt myself, even if all the evidence around me says otherwise.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been a content creator for several years–both for myself and other businesses–so in December of 2022, I put a name on it and launched my own content creation agency, Unclouded Creative. The name was born from the idea of clearing the “brain fog” and overwhelm that often settle in when we challenge ourselves to think up the “perfect” content plan. Ultimately, it’s my goal to help busy business owners strategize, create, and execute social media content that relates to REAL people by creating a healthy, engaged online community.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Perseverance. Running your own business–let alone two or three at the same time–is not for the faint of heart, and if you don’t keep trying when you feel like you’re going nowhere, you’ll quit before you begin. This is, admittedly, incredibly hard for me, ESPECIALLY when my anxiety and depression try to talk me out of pursuing my creative dreams. There are many, many days where I have to step aside and gather my thoughts, but I’m learning that even baby steps count. One thing at a time, at your pace, and on your terms is what will help keep you moving … even if it takes longer than you originally planned.
