Check Out Jay Anthony’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Anthony.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started photography in June 2020, during the height of the global pandemic. I rediscovered the joy of creating art through drawing and painting but was looking to expand my skills as an artist. Photography was like the next best thing to explore, especially during a time where documenting life seemed more important than ever. After college, I moved back to Detroit with a new perspective of the beauty here and want to showcase that.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Early on, there were times when I would question if I was meant to be a photographer. Along the way, you learn to not overthink your process and just enjoy every moment creating.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a portrait photographer. I love bringing a vision to life, whether it’s my own or the people I collaborate with. I’m known for capturing more mundane moments and showing that beauty can be found when you just sit and observe the world around you. In an age where information is always being fed to us, I want to continue to show people that your life can be photo-worthy if you slow down a bit and enjoy it.

I’m proud to be from Detroit, a city full of hard workers who often don’t have their stories told. To come from a place that’s a creative and artistic force. It’s what inspires me to learn, create and grow.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Have as much fun as you can and be in the present. When you’re in your mind too much, you miss out on opportunities to learn. When you’re enjoying what you’re doing, everything that’s good regarding your craft will align in your favor.
