Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Arvizu
Jacqueline , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my fitness journey after having my son in 2019 first gen Mexican American with absolutely no knowledge of fitness having a kid 22 I felt like a teen mom
I learned a lot about myself , motherhood and fitness
While on my fitness journey I got pregnant
I then started sharing my pregnancy fitness journey and while pregnant found out my daughter had a cleft .
Two c sections later fitness has became a safe space
I started sharing just to keep myself accountable
Since then I’ve lost weight , built a community of likeminded women and mommas working on their fitness journey and have worked with many brands with one that specifically donates to Mental Health America and have an Amazon storefront
With the hopes of my own activewear line
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My daughter had cleft and motherhood changed for me . My daughter had her own obstacle to go through but all the standard practices for feeding a child were different . Multiple surgeries and in and out of the hospital.
My partner was also managing his tattoo career and in the same span of my fitness journey we had to sacrifice time and hours to run a successful business
Being a parent in her 20’s trying to figure out life while growing was an obstacle finding the right balance for family and for myself
And also not knowing anything about fitness I’ve had my fair share of gym equipment mishaps
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work for Child Protective Services . And it’s definitely been an experience.
I’ve been here going on 5 ayears and it’s taught me so much about parenting and just how crazy life can be .
Some people are going through so much more than what we know . Always remember to be kind .
I’m one of the two Latinas working in the office and that alone is empowering and says a lot . But working in a place that serves and protects is rewarding within itself.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Mental toughness
I don’t think it’s talked about or explained about enough
On top of having to provide extra care for one child , I’m dealing with personal responsibilities , my other child , my relationship , working fulltime and being the oldest in my family . Wearing many hats is hard . Finding balance is hard . Making sure you aren’t sensitive is hard but the hard is only temporary.
Always remember what you’re doing it for and why . Sometimes family and friends won’t understand the urgency or why xyz is a priority and that’s okay it’s not for them too .
The support may not be there right away or at all and you have to remember it’s not for anyone but for you .
Also consistency is important with everything but knowing that missing one thing isn’t going to set you back .
