Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackamo. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Growing up in a household where music was constantly playing, it didn’t take long before Alison and Tessa Wiercioch began writing and performing songs of their own. What began as inviting their parents to the living room for daily musical performances, turned into a strong and driving passion. The sisters developed their love for harmonies over the muffler noises of Alison’s 1994 radioless, Pontiac Sunbird. Shortly after high school, the girls met guitarist Jimmy Showers and the rest is history.
Jackamo’s sound is a product of their diverse influences and experiences and has affinities with bands like First Aid Kit, The Staves, Mapache, and The Milk Carton Kids. No matter what the setting, the blood harmonies, and plaintive melodies create a sound that is both delicate and indelible: a quill on parchment.
Jackamo writes earnest lyrics rooted in experience. They tell their own stories and the stories of friends and family. These are songs of longing and nostalgia told with honesty and empathy. A listener hears the songs not from a distance, but as if they have been invited into a circle around a fire on a cloudless night.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road is never smooth but that’s what we love most about it. While no one wants to struggle we think the struggle has shaped us in a lot of ways. It helps us to appreciate the little things a little more. All of our musical heroes have faced some of the same struggles we have and that’s why we look up to them. The three of us have always worked (sometimes 3 to 4 different jobs at one time) just to be able to continue to do what we love. We’ve been bartenders, baristas, teachers, grocery store employees, receptionists, etc. you name it, one of us has probably done it (haha). The three of us have faced personal struggles as well as group struggles but we work through them together. It’s a tough business but it’s worth it and it’s everything to the three of us.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a three-piece acoustic trio (we love playing with a full band too). The music we write resides in the Americana genre (Alison likes to call it “Cottage Core”) We are so proud of the music we write and we love sharing it with others. We’re going to leave the “what sets you apart from others” question to listeners. Check out our tunes, we’d love to hear your thoughts!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
SO MANY PEOPLE!
OUR PARENTS are so important. We mentioned previously that music is a tough business, right?? and to have that total and complete support in your chosen path is incredible. They all show up to every gig no matter what. The three of us are truly the most lucky people on this planet. (Thanks to our grandparents as well… best grandparents in the biz).
Sammy Boller and Steve Lehane. These two really changed our lives and we truly admire/look up to them. It felt AND it still feels so incredible to have people we did not know prior to our musical journey believe in the music we make. They have helped us grow and feel confident in a way that cannot be put down in words… again we are very lucky.
Sara Showers, Cheyenne Comerford, Zach Noonan, Hannah Clark, and Katie Esch are always on board for our crazy ideas and we are so honored to have their STELLAR creative input.
Our friends and family. We are so grateful to have all of this LOVE. We love you and we are forever thankful that you are supportive of our musical journey.
