Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Cassar.
Hi Haley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been interested in skin care and art. While living in California, I went to Cal State for Art and Paul Mitchell afterwards to become an Esthetician in 2006. I did my makeup training through Laura Mercier and additional education through Dermalogicas, Dermal Institute in California. In 2010 I moved back to Michigan, where I am originally from. Hiring in at Luigi Bruni Salon in Birmingham as a receptionist I soon became a part of Management there. I managed the salon for ten years, while also taking clients there for makeup and waxing. During that time I also freelanced taking jobs for Ch. 4 NBC Detroit, with a clientele ranging from local anchors to on-air celebrity guests. I also was a frequent as a guest spot on Ch.4’s ‘LIVE IN THE D’ segment with Jon Jordan, featuring the latest makeup and eye brow trends. In 2020 I went on my own to solely freelance and no longer work in a salon. Some of my resume experience in the past almost 16 years in Michigan details, Makeup for the following: 10 years Miss Michigan Pre-lim contest makeup, Miss Michigan + Miss Teen Michigan sponsor Makeup, Live in the D, NBC Michigan Gubernatorial Debate Makeup, NAIAS Makeup for Ch.4 NBC Anchors & Guest Spots, Personal makeup artist to Florine Mark, hundreds of weddings, photo shoots, commercials, live tv, and I have been a key makeup artist on four movie sets (all listed on my IMDB account).
In my total of 20 years experience as an Esthetician + Makeup artist, I’d like to say I’m pretty well versed in my capabilities. I currently, for the past year; take clients at AlexEmilio Salon in Birmingham for Makeup, waxing, and skin services. I also own my own studio in Sylvan Lake called FaceLove, where I offer Hydrafacials and a variety of other skin services, all while continuing to freelance taking on-location makeup jobs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My career has been an adventure, and I would not change any of my experiences. I have had the 4am start times, working until midnight, 16 hour days, an enormous amount of free jobs that ultimately paid off giving me experience and tough skin in the beauty industry. I genuinely started at the bottom and worked my way up the ladder of success. My first job out of Esthetician School was at a beauty supply shop in California, stocking shelves and selling retail. The shop also had a small salon, which I eventually was able to take eyebrow clients.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am licensed Esthetician, specializing in Makeup and eyebrows. I take clients in a Birmingham Salon, my studio and I freelance. I am known for my no-makeup-makeup glam, and my precision eye brow arching. Taking soft glam beyond the clients expectations. I’d like to think that what sets me apart from other makeup artists and Estheticians is being able to actually listen to what the client is asking for, and be completely honest with them in return. Letting them know if something may not look the same on them as someone else, but also explaining why and what would better suit their features.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I love to watch interior design shows, looking at art in magazines, of course getting lost in the rabbit hole of my instagrams algorithm of makeup and art. My interest in creative things plays a big part of me doing makeup. I always want to know what the client is wearing, jewelry, shoes, venue, event, theme so I can get a better understanding of what part my makeup application is actually going to be playing. Keeping my mind full of artistic things wether it be art, architecture, or makeup…it comes full circle in my work.
