Ghasaq-Kim, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always believed in hard work and that nothing is impossible. What’s interesting is that I never imagined I’d be where I am today—I had a very different plan for my future. But life has a way of taking us on unexpected paths.
I was born in Iraq and raised in Michigan, but my early life was shaped by experiencing the Gulf War of 1991, living through its hardships, and even spending time in refugee camps before coming here. Those experiences left a deep mark on me. They taught me strength, perseverance, and the belief that our past truly shapes who we become.
Looking back, every challenge I’ve faced has pushed me to build the strong will and determination I carry into everything I do today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many journeys, mine has been full of ups and downs. Balancing life, work, and my education was one of my biggest challenges. I went to radiology school while working as an X-ray tech and raising my son on my own, which taught me a lot about sacrifice, discipline, and time management.
Transitioning into the beauty industry also came with its struggles. Building a clientele from scratch, proving myself in a competitive field, and later opening my own studio were not easy steps. There were moments of doubt, but I learned to trust my vision, stay consistent, and keep pushing forward.
Those struggles, though difficult at the time, really shaped my resilience. I don’t think success ever comes without obstacles, it’s how you handle them that defines the outcome.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m the owner of Kim Quraishi Beauty Studio, where I specialize in bridal and bridal party hair and makeup, as well as hair coloring techniques like balayage and ombré, haircuts, and eyebrow shaping through waxing and threading. I also continue to offer travel services, which allows me to be there for clients on their most special days.
What I’m most proud of is the trust and loyalty my clients have given me. Since opening my studio, one of my proudest moments has been seeing how much love and support I’ve received, it reminds me that the relationships I’ve built mean just as much as the artistry itself.
What sets me apart is the personal connection I build with each client. For me, it’s not just about creating a look, it’s about listening, understanding their vision, and helping them feel their absolute best. I blend technical skill with artistry, but also with heart. That combination is what I believe makes my work memorable and keeps clients coming back.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that perseverance and consistency matter more than anything. Success doesn’t come overnight, it’s built step by step, even when it feels like nothing is moving forward. I’ve also learned that comparison steals joy. The beauty industry, like many others, can be competitive, but staying true to my own vision and focusing on my growth has been key.
Another big lesson has been to embrace change and trust the process. Life took me on a completely different path than the one I originally planned, but every detour taught me something valuable and led me to where I am today. I’ve realized that the challenges we face often shape us into who we’re meant to become.
