Today we’d like to introduce you to Garrett Hoffman.
Hi Garrett, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Right out of high school, I launched my own web development company while working full-time jobs. I built, hosted, and maintained websites for over 200 clients. After years of growth, I sold that client base to a competitor and shifted my focus to IT.
I spent:
6 years with Lake Orion Community Schools
13 years at Best Buy
8 years with Phillips Consulting
During that time, I continued serving my own clients—partnering with major retailers like Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Costco. These experiences helped shape the way I do business today.
Much of my foundation came from my time at Best Buy. That’s where I learned the importance of teamwork, leadership, and empowering people. The most valuable takeaway? SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures). I can’t run a business without them now.
Today, I run several ventures focused on service, strategy, and impact:
Your Food Dude – a community-driven food truck brand
Shutterbox – a premium photo booth experience company
SparkFusion Marketing – a creative agency helping businesses grow through bold content, strategy, and execution
Every step of the journey has taught me something. I’m driven by systems, people, and creating experiences that truly connect.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been anything but smooth.
There were years I was burning the candle at both ends—working full-time jobs, raising a family, and building businesses late into the night. I sacrificed sleep, weekends, and a social life to chase what I believed in. There were moments I felt like I was barely holding it all together.
Selling my first company was one of the hardest decisions I’ve made. I poured everything into that business, and letting it go felt like losing a part of myself. But I knew it was time to grow in a new direction.
Leaving the comfort of a paycheck to go all-in on myself was terrifying. No backup. No guarantees. Just belief, strategy, and a lot of prayer. I had to learn how to build structure, how to scale, and most of all—how to trust my gut.
What’s kept me going is the people around me.
I lean on my network and my support system more than ever. I run Your Food Dude with my best friend Matt Szadyr—we’ve been side by side for four years, and we just click. With Shutterbox, I teamed up with my sister Tuesday Cariera and Matt again. It’s newer, but it’s been one of the most fun and fulfilling things I’ve done.
Every setback, every late night, every leap of faith—it all taught me something. And it’s made me more grateful for the journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I wear a lot of hats—but they all center around helping people grow, connect, and create lasting experiences.
I specialize in:
Marketing and branding for small businesses
Content creation and social media strategy
Event-based businesses, especially food trucks and photo booths
Business systems and SOPs that make things run smoother
I’m the co-founder of:
Your Food Dude – a food truck that brings people together with bold flavors and a strong community vibe
Shutterbox – a photo booth company that sells unforgettable experiences, not just prints
SparkFusion Marketing – my creative agency that helps businesses tell their story, attract the right audience, and grow sustainably
What sets me apart is that I’ve lived every angle of what I offer. I’ve worked in IT, built companies from the ground up, and know firsthand what it’s like to bet everything on your own vision. I’m not just a strategist—I’m a builder, a doer, and a partner in the process.
I’m most proud of two things:
The relationships I’ve built. Whether it’s clients, business partners, or team members—I care deeply and show up fully.
The impact. Seeing businesses grow, events come to life, and people smile because of something I helped create—that’s what drives me.
Everything I do is backed by heart, hustle, and systems that actually work.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a shy kid—quiet, observant, and always a little hesitant at first. But once I warmed up, I became the carefree, goofy kid who just wanted to make people smile and laugh. I loved making others feel good—it gave me energy and purpose, even if I didn’t fully understand that at the time.
I was curious about how things worked and constantly tried to create or build something. Whether it was taking apart electronics, messing around on the computer, or coming up with little business ideas, I was always in “figure it out” mode.
As an adult, my mom still laughs about how outgoing I’ve become. She says it’s like I flipped a switch. Now, I can walk into any room, start conversations with strangers, and lead projects with confidence. But that same playful, people-loving side of me is still there—it just grew up with me.
That mix of fun, curiosity, and drive has shaped everything I do today.
