Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Llewellyn.
Hi Elizabeth, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always known that art was something I wanted to do professionally. After earning my associate degree, I took my first major step into this industry by securing a tattooing apprenticeship. While that initial shop environment wasn’t the right fit, walking away from it actually became a turning point, it pushed me to find a healthier space where I could truly grow both as an artist and a professional.
Today, my focus is entirely on continuous growth. Every year, I challenge myself with new artistic goals, whether that means expanding my technical skills or carving out dedicated time to create personal work alongside my client pieces.
Ultimately, I believe your only real competition is who you were yesterday, and I’m constantly striving to outdo my own past work.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Managing the beautiful chaos of raising two boys solo, while navigating a toxic work environment, was some of my biggest initial struggles. Surviving that combination really forced me to filter out the noise and figure out what was actually worth my energy.
It also made clear to me that, in this industry, a real hurdle is burnout. It’s a very real wall I’ve had to learn how to recognize, step back from, and overcome.
Learning how to actually relax at home and step away from the machine, pencil, and messages was a lesson in itself, but in the end I feel like it makes me a better artist.
Inside the studio, dealing with difficult clients and inevitable artistic setbacks taught me patience and adaptability.
Looking back, every struggle was a lesson in resilience. It has made me incredibly protective of my mental health, my personal life, and it has left me entirely focused on growth in all aspects of my life.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a tattoo artist, and while I’m a versatile, and try to be an all around artist who can tackle almost any challenge, I specialize in and am best known for my black and grey florals and whimsical, illustrative art.
I am proud of how far I’ve come from my first year of tattooing. I’ve been in this industry for nearly ten years, non stop. In a field where burnout is incredibly high, maintaining that momentum while raising my boys is something I hold close to my heart.
What sets me apart from others isn’t just the technical skill I’ve built over a decade; it’s my philosophy.
Having come up through a toxic shop culture early in my career, I made a promise to build a practice rooted in the exact opposite. I don’t look at my clients as just canvas space, or dollar signs and I don’t compete with other artists. My only competition is the artist I was last year.
Because of that, I try to bring an ego-free, understanding, and collaborative energy to my work. I try to give my clients a safe, patient, and elevated experience from someone who genuinely respects the privilege of tattooing them.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that protecting my energy and setting hard boundaries while maintaining consistent growth artistically is just as vital to tattooing as anything else.
