Elise, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?

My love for photography began with my mother, as I pored over family albums she curated, captivated by memories of people and places long gone. Growing up, I was fortunate to have access to my mom’s film cameras until I was given some point-and-shoot digital cameras, and my passion only deepened over time. At 14, my parents gifted me my first DSLR, marking the beginning of my journey. My mother enrolled me in weekend and after-school photography classes, and by showcasing my passion and early portfolio, I became the first sophomore in my school’s district to study photography.

Film photography became a significant part of my artistic expression, leading me to participate in numerous art shows and competitions during high school and early college. Despite initially pursuing a different career path after graduation—hesitant to turn my passion into a profession—I eventually found my way back to photography. Years of customer service jobs, two degrees, and life experiences led me to where I was meant to be: a full-time, passionate portrait and wedding photographer. My purpose is to provide couples with unforgettable memories, capturing the essence of their love stories to be cherished for generations. Photography is not just my career; it’s a privilege and my calling.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

The road to entrepreneurship has been anything but smooth, yet it’s a path I was destined to follow. From childhood ventures like garage sales to launching a dog-sitting business at 20, I’ve always had a drive to build and nurture something of my own. I treated each business with care and professionalism, from creating websites and business cards to ensuring I was the right fit for my then pet sitting clients. This entrepreneurial spirit carried into administrative roles, where I approached every task with ownership.

Building a photography business from the ground up, however, has been a whole new challenge—handling pricing, taxes, legalities, and everything in between, without a team to lean on. Every step has been a learning experience, but I’ve been fortunate to grow through word-of-mouth referrals from happy clients. It’s been such a journey, and I’m grateful to do what I love.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Michigan-based film photographer with a timeless, photojournalistic style. My approach is relaxed and friendly, helping clients feel comfortable so their true personalities shine through. I specialize in capturing a blend of candid, in-between moments and iconic, editorial-style shots. Available for travel worldwide, I love photographing weddings, couples, and even businesses. I often say, “Documentary Style with a Touch of Editorial Flair,” perfectly reflects my artistic vision.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is living a life of passion and creativity. As an artist, I thrive on capturing genuine moments, particularly through the tactile beauty of film photography. Wellness is also a priority for me—spending time outdoors and doing what I love fuels both my life and work. When it comes to my photography, it’s all about preserving memories in a way that feels authentic. I want my clients to look back on their photos and truly see themselves, reliving the emotions of that time. Staying true to a real, honest style is something I hold dear.
