Check Out Diamond Davis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diamond Davis.

Hi Diamond, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My content creation journey began at the same time I started my full-time job as a sales engineer out of college. I started creating content as just a hobby, but it quickly became so much more to me. I never really was passionate or had a true interest in being an engineer I just knew I would be guaranteed to make good money and it would make my family proud. After two years of juggling both, I wanted to give my all to creating content full-time. It was a scary leap to take leaving my secure job, but I knew I had to in order to be happy. Working for someone else and having a job that I didn’t feel passionate about just wasn’t for me. I felt guilty and silly for not being able to stay in a corporate role. I’d be embarrassed to tell others what I did!

Since leaving my engineering job in October 2020, I’ve been creating content full-time with a focus on fashion, beauty, and lifestyle content. I also love being able to share inspiration with my audience on what it looks like when you trust yourself and follow your passions. I’ve had so many experiences and opportunities now as a creator that young Diamond could only imagine – from working with my dream brands, my photos being featured in mall storefronts across the country, and doing interviews like this because someone wants to know my story.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. There have been struggles and self-doubt every step of the way.

When I was contemplating leaving my job not a lot of people thought it was the “right time” or felt I was just chasing a dream. I had to develop the confidence in myself to feel good about my decisions no matter who agreed or didn’t. I had to move past seeking validation from others to only looking for it in myself. Otherwise, I was constantly looking to others for approval on every step I took in my life.

Another struggle has been being a black creator in general. We are consistently underpaid and undervalued. It means I have to put in more than twice the work as some of my white counterparts to make sure I get even half of what they do. I’m grateful that more transparency is starting to happen though when it comes to how creators are being compensated because it’s a major concern as a black creator.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a content creator/influencer. I also do creative directing, photography, modeling, and content creation coaching/education.

Fashion is my main passion and focus. TikTok is my largest platform so I love creating short videos there. I’m known for my relatable yet editorial-like content. I’m most proud of being full-time for a year and a half now and people reaching out to me and telling me when they got inspired by my story or content and are leaning into their passions whatever they may be.

What sets me apart is just me being me. When you’re so authentically yourself I feel like it sets you apart automatically from others. And when you’re authentically yourself you inspire those around you to be themselves as well.

My individual coaching and courses have also helped people interested in starting their content creation journey when they don’t know what or how frequently they should be posting and what platform is best for their goals. Being able to share what I know about monetizing and really building an audience that is there for who you are has made me so proud.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Listening to what Diamond wants and inspiring others makes me happy. It feels good when I don’t have to answer to anybody, but myself. I get to create my reality. And it feels even better when I know that someone else has been inspired to create their own reality as well. I love challenging others’ limiting beliefs so they can get closer to their true desires.
