Today we’d like to introduce you to Desireé Hensley.
Hi Desireé, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Desireé Hensley, I am a 28-year-old stay-at-home mother of 2 beautiful little girls Bella and Milah. I am married to my amazing husband, Aaron Hensley, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. We also have an amazing golden doodle named Olive, who we love and adore. My husband and I have had a really rocky pregnancy journey; we have suffered several miscarriages and lost our first daughter, Luna at 20 weeks. After Luna, we conceived our beautiful daughter Milah, and 3 years after Milah, we conceived sweet baby Bella. My labor with Bella was very rough; we almost lost her. I was rushed to have an emergency C-section, and during that, I lost a lot of blood and was very close to not making it out of surgery. Thankfully I did make it out, and so did sweet baby Bella. After birth, I began experiencing postpartum depression, I discussed this with my doctor, husband, and close friends. My husband went back to work a few days after I gave birth, and I began falling behind on housework and more. Postpartum depression was taking over my life. I knew in my mind that something needed to change, so I began my day with a new structured morning routine with the girls. I began searching on YouTube (Stay-at-home moms with 2 under 3 morning routines) to help motivate me throughout the day. I then began thinking to myself, “How can I be the motivation for another mom who is suffering from postpartum depression?” so I began researching how to make videos on YouTube and other platforms. I began making videos with my family and recording my (Day In The Life) as a stay home mother. Things started off slow, and I almost gave up, but I knew that I couldn’t give up because somewhere out there was another mother needing the motivation I needed to fight postpartum depression. I began making funny TikTok clips with my family, and our followers continued to grow. I began making videos on YouTube, and our followers loved it! Our Facebook friends began trickling over to TikTok and YouTube, from there we began to have a strong following. One of my videos I recorded on TikTok began to go viral and was shared and reposted on several major pages, growing our social media accounts tremendously. Shortly after, our family signed with Jexy Agency, a talent management company who we love and adore. Our family has done more than 10 collaborations and are receiving more and more each day. I’m so excited for this Journey and can’t believe that being myself and sharing my journey will touch so many people’s lives. Seeing how happy people get when watching our content really makes my heart warm.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a Content Creator/Influencer has definitely had its ups and downs. When posting videos, you have to consider your following and what they tend to gravitate to the most. Starting off, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do funny videos, raw motherhood videos, or plus-size fashion videos, I mean the list is long. I have created videos in every category, and I let my followers decide what content is best for me. It can be challenging when trying to figure out the algorithm on all social media platforms, it’s a lose battle. The biggest challenge for me is continuing to show up. I have days when I am not feeling my best, or I am battling with my own anxieties, and I don’t want to post or create content, but I have to show up, and I have to continue this journey for myself, my family, and my followers. Although content creating is fun and very rewarding, having a healthy work-life balance is very challenging. I am a stay-at-home mother and a wife, so my family will forever and always come first. At times that could mean I am up at 4 in the morning prepping content for the week, replying back to emails, replying back to comments on all social media platforms, researching the newest trends, and also finding time to myself to breath and unwind.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Content Creator/Influencer, I make funny and relatable Motherhood and Lifestyle content. I film (Day In The Life) videos and family content on YouTube. I give honest reviews on brands that have asked for me to film my feedback on their products. I specialize in making funny and relatable content for the world to see. I also specialize in Motherhood and Marriage content. I am most proud of my ability to be able to manage work-life balance. It is very tough being able to create content, film, edit, upload, and collaborate with brands on all social media platforms while being a full-time stay-at-home mother who also homeschools both girls. I’m most proud of beating a slow battle of postpartum depression. I never gave up! I found something that I am passionate about and allows me to be with my children while also making money. What sets me apart from other creators is that I am always going to show up as me, I am always going to be my authentic self and create relatable content that most people are afraid to talk about or share, and I turn it into humor. Life does not always have to be so serious, and the things we go through, most likely there is someone else in the world going through the same things and can really relate. I am very passionate at creating content and sending out the message to other moms that you are not alone, we are in this together, and I too am not perfect. I give raw content that is not scripted. My husband and I like to catch each other off guard when creating videos to give our followers more of a reality than most content you would normally see on social media.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I am known for being a risk taker; I have always been the girl to take risks. I took a risk becoming a stay-at-home mom when my husband was only making $37,000 a year. I took a risk when getting into content creating, not having a clue as to what I was doing. I put myself out there for the world to see and love which was huge for me because I do suffer from Social Anxiety. I take risks every day when pitching myself to brands I would never even imagine would give me the time or day. A major risk that I am taking now is uprooting our family to another state that we have never lived in before. I am going with the flow of the universe and taking on opportunities that I feel is best for our family, not knowing the outcome. I’m also taking a risk and finally decided to write a book about recreating your life and starting over, finding your true identity and purpose in this world full of labels. My entire life right now is a risk, and I am living in the unknown I can’t wait to see what God has in store for my family and I.
