Check Out Desiraè Woltz’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiraè Woltz.

Hi Desiraè, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Yeah, I grew up in Detroit, specifically the west side up until I was in the 4th grade, I did a lot of moving around, but high school, I told myself I really wanted to stay at the same school and grow up my friends and peers. I’ve always tried to stay on the route that God set for me, no matter how tedious or aggravating it may get sometimes (because this walk is not easy, we no to normalize the difficulties of it). Freshman came and I said I was gonna do cheer and everything else. Somehow, I missed the auditions and ended up on the varsity basketball team. I only joined to stay in shape, but I ended up finding some older people who could really give me some great advice on how to go about life. I never got better at basketball but they liked me so they never kicked me off we just had an understanding I was to just stay on the scoreboard. Eventually, the next year rolled around and I did cheer tryouts, I ended up on Jv but I would fill in if one of our captains was missing so I took that as I was doing a good job. Jr year I worked my way up and ended up on Varsity cheer, then Captain and Captain for Track. That continued on into my senior year, all while doing a dual enrollment program for advanced arts and an outside dance crew competition in competitions like World of Dance and Americans Got Talent. When I graduated, I felt like I achieved my goal I set freshman year. I also didn’t feel so lost coming out of high school because I already had a career waiting for me to start and explore once I walked the stage, but like everyone high schooler you learn just how fast life can hit and navigating through adulting, starting a career, and just the ever day stuff will push you to have to find your peace. And for me, that was through entertaining others in an impactful way. Now my in life I take who I am and I’m putting into the world with more thought whether that’s a podcast segment or a dance piece. It will have some type of meaning

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Lol. It’s definitely been difficult. I had to do a lot of growing up and a lot of navigating through life all by myself. I stayed with my mom up until the 5th grade. I went to so many schools. I was going back and forth between my mom and dad. I remember, moving to Arizona, just come back like a semester later then bouncing around Detroit to hotels, shelters, and any family that would let us stay until I moved with my dad. My mom had some personal stuff going on, on top of the neighborhood gang stuff going on, that pretty much made her not wanna be at the house no more, which even at the time I understood. I remember Freshman year My dad was sick and then a year later he was in a bad car accident, around the mom went back to Arizona by herself. So, I moved Between family members to try and get my diploma and navigate through life’s challenges. Then getting older. Trying to step into a career that is very opinion-based, it can be hard to not seek validation and do your own thing, especially training up under or with people who make you feel overlooked but you just gotta make sure you’re being yourself 100%, Eventually you’ll find your people.

Looking back, I coulda asked for more help, but I kinda just tried to do on my own. I made my mistakes and I can truly say I have some regrets. But I can honestly say if I didn’t hit rock bottom, I wouldn’t have appreciated how good it feels to just have a peace of mind. I’m a big advocate for getting on somebody’s couch as they say… Definitely talk to someone about what you feel and think. It’s good to feel heard and also have someone there who can help you understand what’s going on.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am professional dancer, a up and coming choreographer, and podcaster. I’m signed with an agency in Miami called Icon and I have a contemporary- hip hop group founded by me called “Eve’s Ensemble” all of our content is on YouTube. My podcast is called. “DESIRAÈ SPEAKS” it’s ofc 18+ only cause it gets real deep but not in like a sappy way. I’m just always gonna keep it real on anything I’m talking about in there but it’s definitely comedy so tune in. Dance is something I actually recently started in the past 5 years, and in that time, I’ve had great success and I’ve won two ‘World of Dance’ in MI, and I’ve trained with some really dope people like Glenn Douglas Packard, and Janelle Ginestra. I’ve got to perform at a headliner event with Da Baby, Polo G, and YSL Lucci opening with one of my favorite artists Zuri Rene & KNR. I’ve danced for gospel artist Kierra Sheard. That was definitely a special moment for me. One of most recent endeavors is being a choreographer and to my surprise people was actually rocking with me so they would hit me up and hire me for their music videos, competitions &, etc… I love to create it makes dance fun for me. It’s definitely a lot more work as far as the business side but it’s worth it. I even started working at my old high school to create a dance program for the high students. I think my favorite moment of it all was creating Eve’s Ensemble. This year I’ve decided to step back into music. I’ve picked singing back up and the piano as a new hobby. When I in the 1st- 5th grade I was a classical violinist, and I sang in the church. I’m going back to my old church roots and feeling music in my soul verse hearing it in my ears.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
