Check Out Daniel Knudsen’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Knudsen.

Hi Daniel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Detroit and always wanted to be in the movies. One of my father’s coworkers had a friend in the film industry. When I heard stories about them, it fascinated me that real people were involved in the creation of the movies you saw in the theaters and the shows you saw on TV. Fast-forward a few years and my friend was part of a movie being filmed near Orlando, and he got me on the project as a production assistant. After college, I started producing and directing my own feature films right here in my home state of Michigan. Some of the movies we made here include; SKYDOG, Christmas Coupon, Courageous Love, & Dinosaur Cove. Besides movies, I also make corporate films.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The most difficult thing about working in the arts is making money doing it. There are so many things competing for people’s time & attention, it’s difficult to get them to engage in your artwork so you can earn a living doing what you love. As a filmmaker, this has really forced me to think of my artwork in a marketing sense. How do we make films that people will want to watch? I’ve been learning and getting better at it. A recent film I directed (Courageous Love) got over two million views on YouTube.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I mainly direct films, but I also do act. My biggest acting role was starring alongside Superman actor Dean Cain in the movie SKYDOG.

What matters most to you?
Building relationships. You can’t take anything with you when you go. When we’re gone, those who love us will miss us.
