Today we’d like to introduce you to Dakota Travis-Gilmore.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was younger, I always wanted to be in the entertainment industry and the fashion/entrepreneurship world. Only thing was I didn’t know where to start; when I was a senior in high school, we had a project that included us making a commercial for a business. From there I came up with my first business “Kouture Dior” from there I knew that this is what I wanted to do, few months later I had to shutdown “KD” due to legal reasons…
Couple years went by, and I moved to Atlanta for school and to start fresh, but in that process, my father had gotten sick. In January of 2018, my father passed away, and my whole world turned upside down. Losing my father was a game charger for me just for the simple fact that I was only 19 and was just getting my life started. Unfortunately, I became homeless and had to move back home to get myself together and understand my purpose in life.
In 2020, Covid happened and lost my job and I didn’t know what to do but I knew I wanted my own business. On May 28th, 2021 I launched my online boutique named “Glamour Glams Boutique”
Where were sold Dresses, Rompers/Jumpsuits, Two-piece sets and Swimwear.
During the process of launching my business, I met a well-known DJ named “Dj B-Wiz” a few talks and seeing what him and his team were about I officially got into the Club/Nightlife industry. Started promoting and Hosting in the clubs and started networking with different DJs, Hosts and etc.
After I was promoter for a while, I volunteered to work at “Backwoods and Bonfires,” then I became a Brand Ambassador for “CrowdFreak”. Throughout all of that, I started branding myself as “Dee Tha Baddie” for social influencing. I’ve always knew that I wanted to have a brand that represented me and who I am. Now present day, I still managed to continue to run my business, always understand what it takes to be an entrepreneur. Success doesn’t happen overnight, with hard work and determination dreams can turn into a reality if you want it bad enough.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road wasn’t all that smooth getting started due to not knowing my start-up budget, being a part of the LGBTQ community, and being a host/promoter in the Club/Nightlife industry. Having to work 10x times as hard to earn respect because I’m a Black, Gay man that knows what I want and I own every room I walk into. The uncertainty if the business will sky-rock or completely fail, the support of your family and friends when creating your own business. I had to understand that everybody isn’t meant to come on this journey with me and that’s okay, people are in your life for sometimes reasons or a season.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Entrepreneur of a Clothing Brand and social media influencer. I specialize in the Club/Nightlife, Entertainment and bit of the Music Industry. I’m known for owning “Glamour Glams Boutique,” being a promoter/host, and an having my own social media influencing brand, “Dee Tha Baddie.” My most proud moment was launching my boutique and continuing my entrepreneurship journey. What sets me apart from everybody else is that I live in my truth, and I have no issue with showcasing who I am and my struggles/success that has gotten me to where I am especially being part of the Black LGBTQ community.
What matters most to you?
Living in my truth and leaving my legacy, reason being is in today’s society people are still scared to be their true selves and not afraid of what everybody else thinks. Building generational wealth so that years to come my legacy will continue and will inspire others to do the same.
