Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Sims.
Hi Christine , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started photography back in high school while working on the yearbook & school newspaper for Buckley Community School. It became a hobby of mine after graduating high school in 2010, I would do all my family and friend’s photos. I kept being told I should start my own photography business/career. So in the beginning of 2023 I started Black Beauty Photography with the intention of bringing affordable photography to our area for every day families who wanted family portraits.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been an interesting journey since starting Black Beauty Photography, but one that has taught me so much. I started out just doing family portraits, that eventually got me introduced into senior portraits for our local youth! I also eventually dipped my toes into weddings and events, and found that it was my biggest lesson in photography. I ended up making so many wonderful connections, but I have since gone back to family portraits and senior sessions. That’s my favorite part of photography, you can try things till you find what works!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Photography has always been my passion, and it’s always been something that is an evolving skill for me. Learning new styles and techniques. Cameras and equipment are always changing the game in our world. I personally love that about Photography!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
My biggest risk since I started was doing weddings, I was not prepared for what it takes to do a wedding. I was learning as I went, and ran into many “lessons learned” moments. I will always appreciate the skills I picked up while preforming weddings, but knew it wasn’t my area of expertise. I did weddings for two years before stepping down from doing them.
