Check Out Caylin Scott’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caylin Scott.

Hi Caylin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When people ask how I came to own Rockford Pilates Studio, the answer really begins more than ten years ago when I first walked into a Pilates class as a client back in Denver CO.
Five years ago, my husband and I made a big life change and moved from Denver, Colorado, to Rockford, Michigan. We were drawn to the sense of community here and quickly fell in love with the town. As we’ve put down roots in Rockford, I’ve had the privilege of getting to know so many incredible people and businesses that make this community special.
This started when I found Rockford Pilates and became a client. I quickly fell in love with the studio and the community. Like many people, I was simply looking for a way to move my body and feel better. What I didn’t expect was that Pilates would become such an important part of my life. Eventually, my passion for Pilates led me to pursue instructor training and become certified. Thanks to the push and support of a dear friend.
Teaching quickly became more than a job. It gave me the opportunity to help others discover the same benefits I had experienced firsthand. Over the years, I continued to grow within the industry, eventually stepping into a studio management role. That experience gave me a deeper understanding of what it takes to create a welcoming, supportive space where clients can thrive.
Earlier this year, an opportunity presented itself that felt like the culmination of everything I’d been working toward. After years as a client, instructor, and studio manager, I purchased Rockford Pilates Studio.
Becoming the owner has been both exciting and humbling. While there have been updates and new ideas along the way, my goal remains simple: to preserve the welcoming environment that clients have always loved while continuing to grow and strengthen the studio for years to come.
Looking back, it’s hard to believe that a Pilates class I took more than a decade ago would lead me here. What started as a personal practice has become a career, a passion, and now a business that I am honored to steward. I am grateful for every instructor, client, mentor, and community member who has been part of the journey, and I am excited for what comes next for Rockford Pilates Studio.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced moments of uncertainty, self-doubt, and a steep learning curve.
One of the biggest challenges was making the leap from instructor and studio manager to owner. Teaching Pilates and running a business require very different skill sets. Suddenly I found myself responsible not only for clients and classes, but also for finances, operations, marketing, staffing, and all of the behind-the-scenes decisions that keep a business running. There were many moments when I had to trust myself, learn quickly, and step outside of my comfort zone. Imposter Syndrome is real!
There were also the normal challenges that come with any major life change. Moving from Colorado to Michigan meant rebuilding connections, establishing myself in a new community, and finding my place professionally. Looking back, those experiences helped prepare me for ownership because they taught me adaptability and perseverance.
What has made the obstacles manageable is the incredible support I’ve received along the way. From mentors and fellow instructors to our clients and the Rockford community, I’ve never felt like I was navigating the journey alone.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As the owner of Rockford Pilates Studio, my work is centered around helping people move better, feel stronger, and build confidence in their bodies. While I teach Pilates, I also lead a team of instructors and work behind the scenes to create a welcoming environment where people of all ages, abilities, and fitness levels feel comfortable walking through our doors.
What I love most about Pilates is that it truly is for everyone. Whether someone is brand new to exercise, recovering from an injury, looking to improve athletic performance, or simply wanting to feel stronger in everyday life, Pilates can meet them where they are. I enjoy helping clients discover what their bodies are capable of and watching them gain strength and confidence over time.
What I’m most proud of is the community that exists within our studio. Yes, we provide great workouts, but what makes Rockford Pilates special is the people. Friendships are formed here. Milestones are celebrated here. Clients support one another, and our instructors genuinely care about every person who walks through the door. Creating and preserving that sense of connection is something I value deeply.
I think what sets me apart is that I understand the client experience from every angle. I started as a Pilates client myself, became an instructor, served as a studio manager, and now own the studio. Because I’ve walked each step of that journey, I never lose sight of what it feels like to be the person walking into class for the first time or the client working toward a personal goal.
At the end of the day, my goal isn’t simply to run a successful studio. It’s to create a place where people feel welcomed, supported, challenged, and encouraged. If someone leaves feeling a little stronger, a little more confident, and a little more connected than when they arrived, then I’ve done my job.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ve never really viewed my life or business journey through the lens of luck. Instead, I’ve always believed that God has a plan, even when I can’t fully see it in the moment.
Looking back, there are so many moments that seemed ordinary at the time but ultimately shaped the path that led me here. Moving from Colorado to Michigan, finding Rockford Pilates as a client, being encouraged by a friend to pursue instructor training, becoming a manager, and eventually having the opportunity to purchase the studio—each step built upon the one before it. At the time, I couldn’t have predicted where the journey would lead, but now I can see how those experiences prepared me for this season of life.
That doesn’t mean the road has always been easy. There have been challenges, uncertainties, and moments where I questioned whether I was capable of taking the next step. But even during those times, I trusted that there was a purpose in the process and that every challenge was teaching me something I would need later.
Owning Rockford Pilates Studio feels less like a lucky break and more like the result of faith, hard work, perseverance, and God’s timing. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given, the people who have supported me along the way, and the ability to serve a community that my family and I have come to love so much.
