Today we’d like to introduce you to Carley Lusk.
Carley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Carley Lusk, and I’m a singer-songwriter from Michigan.
I spent years in Los Angeles writing, recording, performing, and honing my craft. When I moved back home, I found myself writing the most honest music I’ve ever made.
My songs explore what it feels like to leave a big city, return home, and rediscover who you truly are. Los Angeles taught me so much about the music industry, But coming home reminded me of the artist I am.
I’m still the girl who grew up by the woods, jumping the creek, writing poetry, and finding beauty in the quiet moments. Returning to Michigan helped me reconnect with that part of myself, the part that isn’t afraid to explore emotional depths and turn them into songs.
The music I’m making now feels like coming home, not just to a place, but to myself.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think being an artist is a constant exercise in perseverance. Unlike many careers, there isn’t always a clear path or built-in support system, you have to create opportunities for yourself. There are no guarantees, and pursuing something so personal can be difficult when success is often measured by numbers.
One of the biggest challenges today is that music has become so closely tied to social media. As an artist, you’re not only expected to write and perform music, but also to create content and build an online presence. It can be challenging to navigate that world without losing sight of why you started making music in the first place.
That said, I think there’s beauty in the struggle. Every challenge has shaped my perspective, strengthened my voice, and ultimately made my music more honest. I’ve learned that success isn’t just about numbers, it’s about continuing to create work that feels true to who you are.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a singer-songwriter from Michigan whose music blends soulful vocals with introspective, story-driven songwriting. My work explores themes of growing older, identity, home, and the quiet beauty found in everyday life.
After spending years in Los Angeles writing, recording, and performing, I returned to Michigan and found a new sense of clarity in my songwriting. Being back among the woods, creeks, and changing seasons that shaped my childhood allowed me to reconnect with the artist I had always been. That experience became the foundation of the music I’m creating today.
I’m most proud of writing songs that make people feel seen. I believe the most powerful music creates space for people to recognize themselves in the story.
What sets me apart is the balance between old-soul influences and deeply personal songwriting. My music carries soulful vocals while embracing the intimacy of folk-inspired storytelling.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I remember laughing a lot, and spending summers barefoot outside. I was surrounded by beautiful friendships with neighborhood girls my age, and we found the fun in anything and everything.
Those moments taught me to find beauty in the ordinary, and I think that sense of wonder still shows up in my songwriting today.
