Today we’d like to introduce you to Carey Burns.
Hi Carey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My yoga and healing journey began after my divorce, marking the start of a profound transformation. I began studying with Johnny Kest in Detroit and, since 2007, have trained with many incredible yogis. This path has been a blessing in every aspect of my life.
I first opened a healing and yoga center in Muskegon on Seminole Road with my partner — I was practicing as a massage therapist, and he was a chiropractor and healing physician. It was the perfect partnership, and together we created a beautiful five-year experience.
In 2011, I was offered the opportunity to purchase Lakeshore Yoga in Grand Haven. That, too, was a powerful chapter. Like many, we were affected by COVID and eventually had to close. For the next four years, I taught yoga from my home, offering outdoor classes, and later began teaching at Rootdown in downtown Muskegon, as well as Muskegon Yoga, where I teach aerial yoga and sub classes.
Today, I offer healing work from my home sanctuary on Farr Road in Fruitport. My offerings include sound healing, energy work, plant medicine, yoga, Thai massage, deep tissue bodywork, and retreat facilitation — both at home and away. I host women’s empowerment circles and craft my own line of plant medicines and skincare as a wildcrafter and herbalist.
I truly believe that healing begins when we return home to our bodies and embrace a natural, intuitive approach to our health and wellness. Reflecting on the last 25 years, I feel deeply blessed to have met and worked with so many beautiful souls. Many of them continue to walk beside me — as clients, friends, and family — supporting this ever-unfolding journey.
Today you can find me enjoying a bike ride in the woods playing with my three grandbaby boys, and by my side will be my little sidekick Stella ( my dog lol)
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Some of the struggles along my way was being a single mom with two young kids and navigating all of life. Running a studio is a seven day a week job! I navigated the hardest part of the journey the best way I could. And I’ve learned so much about myself along the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have many areas in my work, but my most recent endeavor is what I have mentioned earlier about wild crafting herbalism and finding our medicine in nature. Here are a few of the things that I make medicinal tinctures serums Álvez lip, glosses cleanses for heavy metal i& parasites. I also have preventatives to boost, immune health and support the bodies well-being. My tagline I would say would be it’s not about fighting the aging or dying process it’s about living life to the fullest supporting yourself so you could do all the things you want to do For as long as you would like to do them. 😊🫶
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would have to say that as a society and a human race we’ve drifted so far from our inner annoying and intuition so my advice would be not something that I would tell you that works for me, but really the best advice that I found is that you know the answers They’re held within and if we get quiet enough heart centered and grounded let go of all the things that keep us so busy and disconnected, we could tune in and know exactly what we needed and that’s a lifelong lesson and journey to be on
