Check Out Cameran Baird’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameran Baird.

Cameran Baird

Hi Cameran, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I first was deciding what I wanted to do in life, I was all over the place. I was a senior in high school, working three jobs, doing competitive dance, all while COVID 19 was happening. I didn’t really have any plans for when I graduated, but I knew I wanted to do something where I could be hands on, creating, and helping others. I was hoping to do something with film, such as SFX makeup as I had a hobby for it. The only issue with this, is I would’ve had to pick up my whole life, and move to a big city such as New York or LA. Mind you, I grew up in a small town where everyone knows everyone, I was not ready to make that big of a commitment, especially at 17 years old. Half way through my senior year, my mom had suggested I get my esthetician license. Essentially, my license was going to be something I could fall back on while I figured out what I wanted my career to be.

Fast forward a few years, here I am, with my own bridal makeup business, and working as an esthetician at my mom’s salon which she has owned for 30+ years. I definitely did not think I would be in this type of career as in the beginning of my esthetician apprenticeship, I didn’t even like it. I was only doing it as an “in case I don’t have a job” button. However, as I continued working on my apprenticeship, I fell more and more in love with esthetics and all things beauty. I found I had a passion for skincare and making people feel beautiful and confident in their skin. Now, I work with brides on their wedding day, clients to help with skin concerns, and so many other things. I never dread my job or what I do as it brings me so much joy.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Any career in the beauty industry is not an easy job. I feel as many people look at it as easy money and easy work. The thing though, you’re not just an esthetician or just a hairstylist. You’re a manager, content creator, educator, business owner, and so much more.

One struggle I’ve had, and still have, is having a clientele, and I know others have this struggle too. Clients are not just going to book with you without any work. I am constantly marketing myself online, networking with others, reaching out to potential clients, offering deals and discounts, and lots more. A lot of these services are considered a luxury service, meaning then general public is typically not going to book them. Therefor, it is constant work on my end to find my clientele. However, I do love the work as I am always learning something new, meeting new people, and growing myself to be an even better esthetician.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an esthetician and makeup artist. During the week, I focus on skincare, facials, lashes, and brows. On the weekends. I do bridal makeup for weddings. The thing about being both an esthetician and a makeup artist is that they go hand in hand. I am able to not only help a bride with her makeup, but also give her suggestions and advice on how to best care for her skin. So many people don’t realize how much your skin health affects the way makeup will look. Unfortunately, social media has created this ideal “flawless” beauty which is just edited, photoshopped beauty. So many women feel they need the smoothest, most flawless beautful skin, when really we’re all beautiful no matter how your skin looks and feels. This is where I can help those who want to heal their skin, and bring back their confidence.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
When I first read this question, my immediate thought was God. I was born and raised a Christian, and while I’m by no means a perfect christian, God has absolutely helped me get to where I am today. Anytime I was having a hard week, only servicing two clients, I kept praying and pushing myself to not give up. I know God put me through tests to strengthen my faith in him and to always turn to him. I now have so many loyal clients who I adore, and have lots of weddings booked for this year. I thank God for everything he has given me, including this interview!
