Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubrey Stout.
Hi Aubrey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always had a passion for art in some way, shape, or form, and for me expressing myself through styling hair is what clicked! Hair for me has always been more than just styling – it’s creating a moment where someone feels seen and celebrated. I started small, doing hair for friends and family, learning through practice and saying ‘yes’ to every opportunity, whether it was for prom, a church event or even a casual style for a special night out. Over time, word of mouth grew my client base, and I invested in learning new techniques, keeping up with trendy hairstyles, and perfecting my skills. What started as a side passion slowly became more as a business, and today I get to combine creativity, community, and genuine connection to serve amazing clients who trust me with one of their most personal features – their hair!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road – and honestly, I don’t think it’s supposed to be. In the beginning, I was figuring out everything at once: perfecting my styling skills, learning how to navigate what a small business is, and finding my own voice in a very saturated industry. There were moments I questioned myself, worried I wasn’t moving fast enough, or wondered if I was even good enough. There were times where I felt that I wasn’t going to get anyone to book me for an event they had. But every bump in the road taught me something – how to be resilient, how to adapt, and how to trust the process. Those challenges didn’t just grow my small business; they grew me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a hairstylist who focuses on creating styles that feel both beautiful and effortless, while also lasting through whatever my clients have planned for their day. I specialize in special occasion hair – weddings, formal events, and styled shoots – as well as everyday looks that still feel polished and put together. I’m probably best known for my attention to detail and for really listening to what the clients want, even if they can’t fully put it into words.
What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built with my clients. They know when they sit in my chair, I’m not just styling their hair – I’m creating a look that feels like them. I think what sets me apart is that I blend technical skills with personal touch. I pay attention to face shape, hair texture and personal style so that every look is customized. For me, it’s never about doing a ‘signature’ style that works for everyone – it’s about bringing out the best version of each individual. There’s no better feeling than to see a client light up when they see their finished hairstyle and it’s exactly what they imagined and more!
What’s next?
My plans for the future are to start a family with the love of my life, but before that happens I want to grow both in my skills and in my business. I want to keep expanding my knowledge with new techniques and trends so I can offer even more to my clients on the hairstyles they request. I’m also looking forward to building a stronger brand presence, both locally and online, so people can connect with my work and my story. In the long term, I’d love to take on bigger projects including bridal styled shoots, brand collaborations, and maybe even teaching or mentoring other stylists. I’m excited for the opportunities ahead and for the chance to keep evolving while staying true to what I love – making people feel their best through their hair!
